Disclosure Day (2026, D: Spielberg) S: Blunt, O’Connor, Firth, Hewson, Domingo

Steven Spielberg has lined up his next feature film, which will be released in 2026.

Universal Pictures is backing the movie, which will open in theaters on May 15, 2026. It’s unclear what the untitled project — which the studio described as a “new original event film” — is about, though Variety previously reported that Spielberg is working on a UFO story.

David Koepp, whose previous work with the filmmaker includes “Jurassic Park,” “War of the Worlds” and “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” is writing the script from a story by Spielberg.

Spielberg, who does not need much of an introduction, is Hollywood’s most commercially successful filmmaker, having helmed blockbusters like “Jaws” and “E.T.,” on top of the “Indiana Jones” and “Jurassic Park” franchises. He’s also a three-time Oscar winner for “Schindler’s List” and “Saving Private Ryan.”

He most recently directed “The Fabelmans” for Universal. Inspired by Spielberg’s own upbringing, the story followed a film-obsessed teenager growing up in Arizona and Northern California. Though “The Fabelmans” received several Oscar nominations, it struggled at the box office, earning just $45 million worldwide.

Spielberg’s film before that, 2021’s “West Side Story,” also hit the wrong notes at the box office with $76 million globally against its $100 million budget. The musical adaptation hit the big screen as COVID was surging, which didn’t help, but post-pandemic moviegoing habits haven’t been kind to films aimed at older audiences.

As movie theaters crawl toward a comeback, Spielberg will perhaps reclaim his crown as the king of summer blockbusters.

This is vague, but promising. My major hope is that it doesn't feature children has main characters, or, God forbid, THE main characters.

EXCLUSIVE: After earning an Oscar nomination for her work in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Emily Blunt might have found her next job, with a director who inspired not only Nolan but a generation of filmmakers. While a deal has not closed, sources tell Deadline that Blunt is in early talks to star in Steven Spielberg‘s next film at Universal and Amblin, marking the first time the A-lister has worked with the iconic director.

The project is described as a two-hander, so Blunt would be playing one of the leads in the project. Based on a story by Spielberg, the film has his longtime collaborator David Koepp penning the script, with Kristie Macosko Krieger producing. Plot details have been kept under lock and key.

I’ll watch anything Spielberg does. I like Blunt too so I’m happy with that casting. Whatever the role may be.

John Williams will be scoring this. But, this movie does not have an official title it seems.

Has anyone seen the 2000 Australian movie "The Dish" starring Sam Neill?

I saw it when it came out and remember really enjoying it.

That's a strong cast. Also no mention of children in main roles, which Spielberg likes to do but which I invariably hate.

Spielberg has delivered nothing less than a masterpiece both times he has directed AND written a science fiction film. I have high hopes for this.

I never understood the praise for Close Encounters, but I don't hate it, but A.I., for me is the only Spielberg movie I've only watched once, because it was so terrible. The teddy bear is the only redeeming part.

Teaser trailer in front of Avatar Fire & Ash. And I'm not sure this movie is officially called The Dish. The announcements I see just call it "Spielberg UFO Movie"

Reminds me of how my father used to name our VHS tapes. Gene Hackman Court Movie and Kevin Costner in a Corn Field were my favorites.

I remember when I was a kid, my grandma taped the Naked Gun off of a premium channel we didn’t have. When she dropped off the tape it said Todd’s Naked Gun. My mom found it hilarious. My grandmother didn’t get it.

Yeah. When 3/4 of the audience walks out of the movie thinking aliens came out of nowhere to end the movie, it failed.
