I Play Rocky (D: P. Farrelly)
Oscar winner Peter Farrelly will direct, and former Warner Bros Motion Picture Boss Toby Emmerich will produce I Play Rocky about how Sylvester Stallone bet on himself to play the star-making role of Rocky. CAA Media Finance and FilmNation are selling at Cannes.
Emmerich and Farrelly are producing with Christian Baha.
Peter Gamble is writing. Pic’s blurb: A struggling actor with a partially paralyzed face and a speech impediment writes a script that a big movie studio wants to buy, but he refuses to sell it unless he gets to play the lead. Turning down an offer of life-changing money, he instead works for pennies to get the movie made with himself in the starring role. The movie becomes the biggest box office hit of 1976, notching ten Oscar nominations and winning Best Picture. The true story of the making of the iconic movie Rocky.
Emmerich, said “I’ve been a fan of Peter Farrelly as both a filmmaker and a person since getting to work with him on the music for Dumb and Dumber. But it was Green Book that made me think of Pete for this inspiring screenplay. Christian Baha and I feel blessed to have Pete at the helm for this movie. And like the unknown Stallone starring in ROCKY, Pete will be conducting a worldwide search to discover another actor who just needs one shot — in I Play Rocky — to show the world what he can do.”
Baha added, “When I first read Peter Gamble’s energetic and poignant script, I knew it captured something very special. The story of I PLAY ROCKY is as unique as Sylvester Stallone himself, a seeming Everyman with an undeniable gift who needs to share it with the world and refuses to take “no” for an answer. And like the hero of our film, Baha Productions needed grit and determination as we fought for years to make this project into a reality. We are so fortunate to have teamed up with Toby Emmerich and Peter Farrelly, two legendary talents who not only share but enhance our vision of the film.”

I strongly dislike movies about the making of movies.

Yeah, I think I only like the ones about movies I'm not familiar with (Ed Wood, The Disaster Artist). No matter how I try to suspend my disbelief and remind myself "It's a movie, just enjoy it like you would a fictional story", I know Rocky and Stallone too well for my mind not to nit-pick the shit out of this.

I'm actually interested in this story, although the fact that Stallone has gone full MAGA might deter me from watching.

Sly posted the production still on IG and just said Good luck to them. He acknowledges the movie exists. Don't know if he will support it as long as Irwin Winkler is still alive

It had potential and gets a lot of shit for Sofia Coppola, but I've always thought Andy Garcia and Joe Mantegna were absolutely terrible in their roles. They are what really sunk the film for me.

Production has been filming this week in Philly on the street were Rocky lived in his row home.
Looks like they're trying to get the look of the 70's as close as possible.
Some things will be hard without cgi like the scene if in this movie when Rocky met with his mob guy on the street at his car.
There is a huge modern condo/apartment building there now.
If you want to map it the address is 1820 Tusculom Street in Philly.
A local to philly YouTuber who mostly just bikes and walks around Philly on his channel made a video of the street where filming is in progress.
He was also featured in an Emmy winning short movie that's on Netflix called The Turnaround
