The Simpsons Movie 2 (2027)

I have never watched an entire episode of The Simpsons, ever. G-d's honest truth. Maybe some parts of the Halloween eps. I liked those. but given that i really loved the movie. i thought it might have bombed or something, but imdb says like $360 million WW. So, why not a follow up?

I don’t know but really you need to fix not having seen that show. Seasons 3-10 are some of the best tv ever.

That’s crazy you’ve never watched a full episode out of all the seasons. I understand some people who only like the early seasons (I’m a diehard fan personally) but there are so many classics.

Agreed that it is somewhat odd that there hasn’t been another movie. It’s still a recognizable brand and I feel like there’s enough appeal to a casual audience who only watches an episode here and there to see a movie.

There has been talks of a sequel as far as I know but it’s never developed into anything.

To be fair, they never stopped making the show. There's only so much time, plus creatively it's probably hard to integrate the story into the show's timeline and story (though that'sless of an issue with The Simpsons. How many other TV shows released theatrical movies while still on the air. X Files is all I can think of.

South Park is one.

edit: also thought of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Maybe Beavis and Butthead, I can’t recall if that was during the show run. Possibly the SpongeBob movie. I can’t think of any live action shows.

Not many, you are right there.

Because they were already struggling to put together funny 22 minute episodes.

Transformers, and they did it in the middle of making like 100 episodes.

i've rarely watched cartoons on tv now (when i was a kid is a whole other story). i have never even seen a full ep of South Park. really just don't dig most of these cartoons. exception being Harley Quinn certainly and i like Invincible. but, others i just have no desire. not sure how or why i saw TSM, but it was so good and i just revisited it and it still is funny. it really was a great incarnation of the show, i assume.

And it led to continuity issues here and there, since certain characters that appeared in the TV series (for instance, Metroplex and the gestalts, other than Devastator) had not been created when the movie went into production, thus being absent in the same.

I won’t beat a dead horse (after this) but it isn’t as good as almost any single episodes from season 3-10 and I like the movie just fine.

This. The movie was fine, mostly due to Albert Brooks, but there's probably 250 episodes of the show that are better. At minimum.

Also, I had heard a rumor recently that James L. Brooks's new movie got greenlit because he agreed to do Simpsons 2. So it may be happening.

Oh there are easily a number of episodes I like better than the movie. The movie is pretty good but it more represents later seasons of the show.

Makes sense given that it was made in 2007 but the humor has changed over time. The show was probably at its best in the first ten or so seasons in my opinion.

re: The Simpsons Movie 2 (2027)

I remember years ago they used to ask the showrunners if they would ever do a movie and they would always answer something like “if we come up with a storyline that will work for a 90 minute feature we’ll consider it”.

So I’ve always figured they just prefer to keep the show going instead at this point.

Batman The Animated Series and Bob’s Burgers (both those movies are great).

re: The Simpsons Movie 2 (2027)

As much as I enjoyed The Bob’s Burgers Movie, it really just feels like a slightly more polished extended episode of the show. At least The Simpsons Movie had more of a theatrical/special feel to it over the series.

The other thing with The Simpsons is that it’s pretty rare in the entire run of the show that they do even two part episodes. They’ve done a total of four (and actually one of those was an hour long special episode). For the longest time they had only done “Who Shot Mr. Burns” as a two parter.

re: The Simpsons Movie 2 (2027)

I think with Disney fishing for bankable IPs for the box office, I suspect a second Simpsons movie is in the cards if everything aligns. Would they trust the show's current writers with a theatrical project? No. It only gets green-lit if a mix of older writers came back to work on it and even that might be dicey. After seeing what's happened to Star Wars, I'm not waiting on pins and needles for a second movie.

As a huge Simpsons fan, I enjoyed the movie but I've never felt a real need to watch it again. Like some have mentioned, there are dozens and dozens of funnier episodes from the show's golden age than the movie.

So agree. I paid to see it in the theater. And I loved seeing the Simpsons on the big screen, but it was nothing special at all.

I'd been watching The Simpsons since they were on Tracey Ullman (used to have to go down the street to my grandmother's house because her reception got FOX). I went to see The Simpsons at the theatre in 2007, hoping for the best, but felt like they had waited too long to make a movie. Throughout the 90s, the TV show made enormous creative leaps, and surprised me with what it could accomplish. But after nearly 20 years, it had long ago reached its apex, and there was nothing about that movie that felt special. The timing happened better for South Park, who did their movie after only two seasons, and it was really an elevation of the TV show.

Had they made a movie in 1997 instead of 2007, much like an iceberg sank the titanic, a Simpsons movie would have sank James Cameron’s film. A Simpsons movie in 97 would have been a license to print money and probably would have gone on to be the highest grossing film of all time up up until that point. IMO.

Coming July 23rd, 2027.

I still watch the Simpsons as a comfort show (mostly older episodes), I don't see how there is any expectation of success for a 2nd movie though given the 18 year gap from the first and how irrelevant the series has become in that time.

Re: Why didn't they make The Simpson's Movie 2?

I get your thinking but the last movie made over half a billion dollars and The Simpsons weren't really that more relevant in 2007. Also there might have been more resentment towards the show then as the drop from the heights of quality we saw in season 1-10 was more recent. It might benefit in the minds of old time fans that they're so far removed from the show now even though it's still on weekly.

This won't make as much as that but if it made half as much it's still a huge success so I can see why they're doing it financially.

I'll see it.

Also Oldboy it is still fucking bonkers that you refuse to watch what is some of the best tv ever despite liking the lesser (though still fine) movie version of it. I've told multiple people about this. It leaves them all as confused as I am. Congrats on this being announced but please just watch any 2 episodes from like seasons 4-6.

As a life-long fan of the show (both my life and the show's life) I would be curious to learn his reaction if he checks out the show, but seeing as those golden age episodes are close to thirty years old at this point, can we really expect a new viewer to be as excited by them as we were? Like most shows, The Simpsons was of its time, and after experiencing decades of the shows and the world to come after The Simpsons, can his reaction be any better than, "Yeah, they're alright"?
