Garland has said he is taking a break from directing... but it seems like he will co-direct this to help Mendoza out for his first time directing.

Directed by an Iraq war veteran is very interesting to me.
I'm always interested in unglamorized movies like this who try to get the details as accurate as possible.

Re: Warfare (2025, D: Mendoza & Garland)
EXCLUSIVE: A24 has set a nationwide theatrical release for Alex Garland and Ray Mendoza’s Iraq War feature Warfare for April 11.
Last year, on the second weekend of April, A24 released Garland’s dystopian political thriller Civil War which wound up their biggest stateside opening at $25.5M and their second highest grossing movie ever with $127M worldwide.
Also opening on April 11 is Universal/Blumhouse’s The Drop, 20th Century Studios The Amateur and Angel Studios’ King of Kings.
Warfare embeds audiences with a platoon of American Navy SEALs in the home of an Iraqi family, overwatching the movement of US forces through insurgent territory. A visceral, boots-on-the-ground story of modern warfare, told in real time and based on the memory of the people who lived it. The cast includes D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Will Poulter, Cosmo Jarvis, Kit Connor, Finn Bennett, Taylor John Smith, Michael Gandolfini, Adain Bradley, Noah Centineo, Evan Holtzman, Henrique Zaga with Joseph Quinn and Charles Melton.

This is getting one Dolby Screen at my theater, along with Drop. The Amateur is getting IMAX screens. I'll be catching all 3 that weekend.

IMAX Early Access screenings start next Wednesday
It’s on the same night as Drop Early Access. I want to see both, but I’m opting for Drop. I’ll see this later next week.

I'm seeing this on the Wednesday in IMAX and catching Drop that Saturday in Dolby Cinema. It's a packed weekend for me - also catching The Amateur in IMAX and Vampire Hunter D 4K anniversary release that Sunday.

My plan for the week is Drop Dolby on Wednesday, Warfare IMAX Thursday, Amateur Dolby Friday. I do wanna try to see Vampire Hunter on Sunday too, I've never seen that one before.

Nice. Yeah, it's the original from 1985, though. Some folks thought it was the sequel "Bloodlust."

I want to see this in IMAX, but I can't make the early IMAX showing tonight because I'm seeing Drop that is showing the exact same time. And there aren't any early premium showings this weekend in my area because Minecraft and The Amateur have all the early showings. Drop has a 10pm Dolby showing and this has a 10:55pm IMAX showing. Just not enough premium screens.

Re: Warfare (2025, D: Mendoza & Garland)
Got back from a spontaneous Will Poulter double feature: Death of a Unicorn and Warfare. The only IMAX showing listed here this week was the early access showing tonight. I can't see this sneaking back onto IMAX in a week or so, so I bit.
No idea how it started since AMC did NOT do their usual 20 minutes of trailers starting at showtime. Quite a few people were "late" to this.
Intense. See it in the best format possible and bring earplugs. I'd prefer a return IMAX engagement for Civil War, but this was a technical spectacle. I immediately had thoughts back to Black Hawk Down -- a film that I did not like and have never revisited. My issue at the time was that it had little-to-no story (just a factual retelling) and I couldn't tell the characters apart. I should probably revisit it as that is probably an unfair assessment. Despite the conceptual similarity, Warfare seemed to succeed on that level for me. Thankfully we do not get any tacky side-stories about needing to get home to a loved one or flashbacks to saying goodbye on the beach, not even any heavy-handed "Oh, I dropped he picture of my kids." This is a pure survival story in the moment. There are a few moments of humor, and I felt dirty for chuckling, but you need that pressure-relief valve.

Watched it last night and as Abob mentioned, no trailers whatsoever. 15 minutes into the film and folks were still coming in late. This was at my AMC theater. It might just be an AMC thing. A buddy saw this at a Regal and said there were 6 trailers at his showing.
Thought the film was awesome. It's essentially a day in the mission of a ground troop squad. The 4K disc is going to be off the hook in the sound department.

If you are a member of the A24 club, they just sent out the free tickets to see it this weekend.
But, if you already have A-List or Regal Unlimited, there is really no point to the free ticket. Unless your slots on A-List are all full.

The free ticket is good for date night if you only have a single A-List account.
