NCIS: Tony and Ziva (Paramount+) -- S: Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo

PARAMOUNT+ ORDERS NEW ORIGINAL "NCIS" SERIES, STARRING COTE DE PABLO AND MICHAEL WEATHERLY

de Pablo and Weatherly to Reprise Their Roles as Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo In the Newest Installment of the NCIS Franchise

Series will be Produced by CBS Studios, with John McNamara Serving as Showrunner and Executive Producer

February 28, 2024 - Paramount+ today announced a new series order for the next chapter in the NCIS franchise, starring Cote de Pablo and Michael Weatherly, who will reprise their roles as fan-favorite characters Ziva David and Tony DiNozzo. Slated to start production later this year, the 10-episode order of the all-new NCIS spinoff - the title of which will be announced at a later date - reunites de Pablo and Weatherly on screen for the first time in 10 years. The two also will serve as executive producers alongside John McNamara (Trumbo, The Magicians), who wrote the premiere episode and will serve as showrunner. Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain and Shelley Meals also will executive produce.

After Ziva's supposed death, Tony left the NCIS team to go raise their daughter. Years later, Ziva was discovered alive, leading her to complete one final mission with NCIS before she was reunited with Tony and their daughter in Paris. Since then - and where we find them in the new Paramount+ original series - Tony and Ziva have been raising their daughter, Tali, together. When Tony's security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after.

"We've been talking about this story for many years, and now with John McNamara at the helm, we are ready," said Weatherly and de Pablo. "The world of Tony and Ziva (and daughter Tali) promises to be an action-packed roller coaster fueled by love, danger, tears and laughter. We also want to acknowledge and thank the fans from around the world who supported the 'TIVA' movement for years. To this day, they say hello in grocery stores and on the street to tell us how much these characters mean to them and ask what Tony and Ziva are up to now. This is for you!"

"I'm incredibly excited to step into the NCIS universe with Cote and Michael and thrilled to explore it from a few new angles," said showrunner and executive producer John McNamara. "Given that the franchise is such a global sensation, I think it's phenomenal that CBS Studios and Paramount+ have given us the greenlight to shoot in Europe. As to the title of this series, if I told you what it is, I'd be violating the Espionage Act."

NCIS is the world's most successful television franchise; in the 2022-2023 TV season, it's estimated that the franchise had more than 300 million viewers around the world across all platforms, including broadcast, cable, streaming and syndication (according to Nielsen and internal data). Since the launch of Paramount+, the NCIS Franchise consistently has ranked among the top-five franchises on the service, in terms of hours consumed. In spring 2024, NCIS will celebrate its 1,000th episode across the franchise.

The upcoming new NCIS spinoff is produced by CBS Studios and executive produced by John McNamara, Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo, Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain and Shelley Meals. The series is distributed by Paramount Global Content Distribution.

Weatherly just appeared in a cameo on NCIS last week for the funeral of Ducky.

I know a lot here don't follow NCIS anymore, but Tony and Ziva are now a couple and have a child together. With this being a streaming series, at least it won't be handcuffed by typical plots from CBS.

I really loved NCIS in the beginning and especially Tony DiNozzo, but by season 7 the procedural structure of the show began to bore me and I bailed in S8. If this is more of a serial I'm interested.

Doesn't sound like a weekly "case of the week" show to me

The action-packed spinoff, which has a 10-episode order, will follow Tony (Weatherly) and Ziva (de Pablo) as they find themselves on the run across the Old Continent.

Filming on the series — the second extension of the NCIS franchise beyond the U.S. after NCIS: Sydney — is slated to begin this summer in Budapest. John McNamara is the writer/showrunner.

"When Tony’s security company is attacked, they must go on the run across Europe, try to figure out who is after them and maybe even learn to trust each other again so that they can finally have their unconventional happily ever after,"

Even Criminal Minds, which now airs on Paramount +, has now become a more serialized season story arc show.

Sounds like how they started L&O OC. Have a season long story to bring the characters back and, if it survives to more seasons, it will probably morph into more of a case of the week type show to make the writing easier.

This dropped today.

3 episodes dropped out of 10

I don't know if anyone here has any interest. The general feel I'm getting is this is a serialized spy action show and not typical NCIS that we got on CBS.

Still interested but I'm so backed up on other shows, I think I can wait til these all drop. Which would then give me something to hold over until new season of NCIS

Re: NCIS: Tony and Ziva (Paramount+) -- S: Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo

5 episodes have already dropped.

I watched the 1st episode last night.

A few observations:

Tony and Ziva apparently broke up. They aren't together and are co-parenting their daughter Tali separately.

It's basically like a spy thriller and has nothing to do with NCIS. They just flashed their old badges in one scene, but Tony runs a private security firm and Ziva is like a freelance spy/assassin. There are a few F bombs dropped. It takes place entirely in Europe.

If you haven't followed NCIS in years, they did a quick rundown in the 1st episode of their relationship that has spanned 20 years.

The story seems to center on a threat to them and their daughter.

I know no one is watching here, so I guess I'm talking to myself. I'm going to try to get caught up.

I'll start the show soon. So you're not alone. Tony was always the main reason I watched NCIS. He's a great character. But after University and marrying my wife I didn't have enough time to watch everything and most procedurals were the collateral damage.

I'm guessing most of you didn't watch this.

So, it ended with closure. The story was wrapped. Tony and Ziva did end up getting back together and walked off into the sunset with a montage of their relationship.

It was a nice wrap up. If it doesn't come back, it was a pretty satisfying one off to bring some closure to these characters.

Will not be getting a 2nd season

It did wrap up the character arcs with no loose ends, so it IMO was a good epilogue to these characters.

Re: NCIS: Tony and Ziva (Paramount+) -- S: Michael Weatherly, Cote de Pablo

I recently watched the first two episodes, but I won't watch any further. The tone is way to silly and the killer car scene was just terrible. "Hide your faces", "That's not possible". So peekaboo was not an option, but shooting one tire will stop every car immediatelly.
