Prediction for next week: 40 minutes of boring and pointless exposition followed by 10 minutes of True Detective.

Yeah this is not the way to bring back one of your premier shows...

I will binge the last 3 when they are done.

Pretty boring and not liking the supernatural element.

Tired of seeing the old cliché of the cop spending too much time working cases and ignoring personal/family life (ie. the young guy cop and his wife). But if you're going to trot that out again, at least make it relevant to the situation/environment.
They're in the middle of bum-fuck Alaska - not exactly the hub of criminal activity. The cop's had a lot of down-time previously I'm sure, so working on a case for a few days shouldn't be that big a deal.

Also, found it odd that Danvers needed to be told that the guys didn't freeze to death based on the terrified looks on the dead guys faces. I assumed she already knew that. You don't need to be an expert to know that.

Yea. Halfway through the season, I'm feeling pretty meh about it.

This season is becoming one of those tv series that feel like a two-hour movie bloated out into a miniseries. The central case feels like it could have been a pretty tight, two-hour thriller movie that got expanded by four hours of filler.

This was not great, but I'm still in. I love the setting and Foster as this character.

And at least it's better than the Justified revival. By a whole fucking lot!

Didn’t get a chance to watch episode three yet. Probably will tonight. Disappointing to hear this one wasn’t as good.

This episode was a chore to sit through.

Lopez seems to be cramming season 1 stuff into this season. This episode we got Danvers story about Navarro and her and the flashback not matching the story she was telling, like when Rust told the investigators about the Reggie Ladoux house

I agree with the majority... This episode was pretty disappointing.

And what was with the baby? We clearly heard it crying, but then they were saying it was stillborn?

Also, I thought the bodies were supposed to thaw in 48 hours?

Three shows in and I think half the timeline is them talking about squiggly circle.

The rest is everyone talking about how much they hate Foster

There’s also a ton of backstory from every character it seems. The problem is that these people aren’t interesting enough and neither is their backstories

The first baby we saw seemed to be stillborn, but survived. That was a flashback to when Navarro first met Anna.

The later child death was unrelated, other than the town is down one doula specializing in native home births.

Why was it almost daylight in the car with Danvers and Navarro? I thought it was suppose to be a month of darkness in Ennis.

I wondered that too.

Certainly the weakest of the three episodes. But dead stumpy calling out to Navarro was freaky AF.

I've never been to the arctic, but from what I know about planetary motion, I would assume that when you're coming out the extended dark period, you would have "dawns" where the sun never actually comes up above the horizon.

Because of the Earth's axial tilt, the sun moves upward in the sky on a day-by-day basis between the winter solstice and the summer solstice, then begins moving lower in they sky after the summer solstice. It's why the sun sets at different times each day, and the "days are longer" during the summer.

Because of the axial tilt of the planet, there is an area above what we call the arctic (and antarctic in the south) circle where there are periods where the sun is so low in the sky that it never comes above the horizon and these places have extended periods of night. Likewise, there are periods where the sun never gets below the horizon for extended periods in these places and we have what is called "the midnight sun."

Yeah, not feeling this show at all. Even with playback at 1.5x it is a slog.

The ending is going to be a big reveal that the stuck Ferris Bueller clip drove everyone insane so they stripped down and ran outside to get away from it.

There are theories that involve that song because it's appeared a few times this season. In this episode the guy sitting in the chair that Danvers said was dead when Navarro and her arrived on the scene is humming it in the flashback.

A mystery solved!! Whew.

Also not a fan of episode 3 except for the closing few minutes which got the heart rate elevated a little.

Just watched episode three tonight. It was fine. I dunno to me a lot of the problem I’m having with this season is that it’s keeping a lot of things cryptic.

We’re not getting explanations for basic things like relationships/history between characters. Navarro is obsessed with the death of Annie but we don’t really know why. Were they friends, lovers, relatives? We don’t have a true explanation of why Danvers and Navarro dislike each other. Danvers’ explanation was a half truth clearly. Captain Prior is a weirdo and has a history that relates to the case that we don’t know about.

Plus we have the main storyline stuff involving the Alaskan natives and the mines along with the main case of the dead scientists that we’re trying to unravel still.

Not that I don’t appreciate a mystery but halfway through the season I feel like some of this stuff needs to be explained. There are a lot more questions than answers and by this point that shouldn’t still be the case in my opinion.
