Goosebumps (Disney+) - Inspired by R.L. Stine's book series - premieres 10/13/23
Inspired by R.L. Stine's worldwide bestselling book series, “Goosebumps” follows a group of five high schoolers as they embark on a shadowy and twisted journey to investigate the tragic passing three decades earlier of a teen named Harold Biddle – while also unearthing dark secrets from their parents’ past.
“Goosebumps,” the Disney+ series based on R.L. Stine’s popular book series of the same name, has set a Friday the 13th premiere date for this fall.
The adaptation will launch Oct. 13 on both Disney+ and Hulu with the first five episodes of the series running as part of Disney+’s “Hallowstream” and Hulu’s “Huluween” celebrations.
Subsequent installments of the 10-episode series will release weekly. The first two episodes of “Goosebumps” will also air Oct. 13 on Freeform during its “31 Nights of Halloween” programming.
The show centers on a group of five high school friends who incidentally discover a sinister town secret regarding the death of a teenage boy named Harold Biddle. Three decades after Biddle passed away, the friends throw a Halloween party in his old house, prompting a new haunted reality to come to life. As the kids work together to save their town, they learn some chilling revelations about their own families along the way.
“R.L. Stine’s ‘Goosebumps’ franchise is a pop culture phenomenon that holds a special place in the hearts of people of all ages,” Disney Branded Television president Ayo Davis said in a statement. “We are delighted to bring this spooky new series to audiences everywhere in a big way on Disney+ and Hulu, which we hope will not only captivate new audiences with its elevated thrills and chills, but also lifelong fans nostalgic for the stories that are a staple of their generation.”
The Disney+ series stars Justin Long (“Barbarian”), Rachael Harris (“Lucifer”), Zack Morris (“EastEnders”), Isa Briones (“Star Trek: Picard”), Miles McKenna (“Guilty Party”), Ana Yi Puig (“Gossip Girl”) and Will Price (“The Equalizer”), among others.
Developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, EPs for the series include Stoller, Letterman, Hilary Winston, Neal H. Moritz, Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Scholastic Entertainment’s Caitlin Friedman, Erin O’Malley and Kevin Murphy. James Eagan and Nick Adams serve as co-executive producers.

I'm having a hard time getting through the first episode.
Maybe I just miss the vibe and sub-30 minute episodes of the 90s series.

My wife and I are slowly making our way through this. I wasn’t really hooked by the first episode but the second and third episodes have been better. I wasn’t expecting the show to be serialized and figured it would be an anthology type like the books/original series.

Pretty by-the-numbers. I'm still enjoying these edgy-family-oriented scary movies and shows. Don't expect anything that makes you go "wow this is a great series".

The second season of Goosebumps at Disney+ has cast David Schwimmer in a lead role.
The Emmy-nominated Friends star will head the cast of the show, based on R.L. Stine’s hugely popular series of books. Disney+ renewed Goosebumps for a second season in February, opting to turn the show into an anthology rather than continuing the story from season one.
Following Schwimmer’s casting, Disney+ announced that Ana Ortiz (Ugly Betty, Love Victor), Sam McCarthy (Dead to Me), Jayden Bartels (Side Hustle), Elijah Cooper (That Girl Lay Lay), Galilea La Salvia (Party Down) and Francesca Noel have also joined the series.
The season two logline reads, “Teenage siblings discover a threat stirring, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, the duo find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.”
Schwimmer will play Anthony, a former botany professor and divorced parent of teenage twins is juggling the responsibilities of overseeing an aging parent while having his kids for the summer. Ortiz will play Jen, a police detective who remains rooted in her Brooklyn neighborhood after experiencing a tragic event that involved her friends in adolescence.
McCarthy and Bartels will play Devin and Cece, the twin kids of Schwimmer’s character. Cooper, La Salvia and Noel will play teen characters named CJ, Frankie and Alex.
The first season of Goosebumps performed fairly well for Disney+, recording 1.9 billion minutes of viewing time in the United States for the four weeks after its October 2023 premiere, according to Nielsen figures. Season one starred Zack Morris, Isa Briones, Miles McKenna, Anna Yi Puig, Will Price, Rachael Harris and Justin Long.
Sony Pictures Television produces Goosebumps for Disney Branded TV. Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman developed the show and executive produce with showrunner Hilary Winston, Neal H. Moritz, Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch and Erin O’Malley.

Re: Goosebumps (Disney+) - Inspired by R.L. Stine's book series - premieres 10/13/23
It might be R.L. Stine‘s 82nd birthday, but Goosebumps fans are the ones in for a big surprise.
On Tuesday, Disney+ and Hulu shared the first teaser for Season 2 of the anthology series adaptation of Stine’s books, which premieres Jan. 10, revealing the title Goosebumps: The Vanishing and a first look at new star David Schwimmer.
“They seem to join with a host,” says Schwimmer in a voiceover as his face appears onscreen, framed in a splashing black liquid. “It’s for the greater good.”
Goosebumps: The Vanishing follows twins Cece (Jayden Bartels) and Devin Brewer (Sam McCarthy) as they are sent to spend the summer in Gravesend, Brooklyn with their divorced dad (Schwimmer). A threat is stirring, and they quickly realize that dark secrets are among them, triggering a chain of events that unravel a profound mystery. As they delve into the unknown, Cece, Devin and their friends find themselves entangled in the chilling tale of four teenagers who mysteriously vanished in 1994.
The eight-episode season features Schwimmer as Anthony Brewer, a former botany professor who has immersed himself in science and mystery. Ana Ortiz, Elijah M. Cooper, Galilea La Salvia, Francesca Noel and Stony Blyden also star.
Fans of Stine’s popular book series will recognize elements from Stay Out of the Basement, The Haunted Car, Monster Blood, The Girl Who Cried Monster, The Ghost Next Door and Welcome to Camp Nightmare, all of which served as inspiration for the sophomore season.
Developed by Nicholas Stoller and Rob Letterman, the showrunner is Hilary Winston. They serve as EPs with Neal H. Moritz, Scholastic Entertainment’s Iole Lucchese and Caitlin Friedman, Pavun Shetty, Conor Welch, Erin O’Malley, Karl Frankenfield and James Eagan.
