Freelance (2023, D: Morel) -- S: John Cena, Alison Brie
An ex special forces operative stuck in a dead-end desk job (John Cena) reluctantly takes on a gig to provide private security for a washed-up journalist (Alison Brie) as she interviews a ruthless—but impeccably dressed—dictator (Juan Pablo Raba). When a military coup breaks out just as she's about to get the scoop of a lifetime, the unlikely trio must figure out how to survive the jungle, the assassins, and each other in order to make it out alive.
This looks kind of fun. But, I'm sure this will bomb. Cena just isn't a draw for most. And these kind of action/comedy movies just don't make money nowadays. Maybe if it was the late 90s or early 2000s.

Looks fun. The type of movie that doesn't go to theaters much anymore, so I will try to support it.

This was the Regal Mystery Movie tonight.
I thought it was entertaining, but it did have some issues. It’s about 10 to 15 minutes too long and there are some plot holes. But I did get some laughs and Cena was entertaining. This is the type of movie ,where Cena doesn’t take himself too seriously, is best suited for him. I’m also glad they didn’t force a romance between him and Brie. Cena’s character is married with a kid. There is a scene where she tries to seduce him, but he declines. Some humorous partial nudity, but nothing gratuitous.
Juan Pablo Raba was actually pretty funny as the pseudo-dictator. He really played well off Cena and Brie. This does feel like a throwback to action comedies of the late 90s/early 2000s.
Overall, B- Catch a matinee if you’re a fan of any of the performers in this. There is a blooper reel during the credits.
I felt bad for an old lady sitting next to me. She left for a bathroom break and loaded up on some snacks when the movie almost over and came back when the credits were rolling with her treats.

0% after 20 reviews. All of them hate it.
I stand by my opinion from the early screening. Definitely not great, but not terrible. I got some laughs. I didn't think it would be 0% though. I expected maybe 20-30% would give it a positive score.
