Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi (D: James Mangold)

3 new movies announced

James Mangold’s movie will go back to the dawn of the Jedi.

Dave Filoni’s will focus on the New Republic, and close out the interconnected stories told in The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka, and other Disney+ series.

Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s film will be set after the events of Rise of Skywalker, and feature Daisy Ridley back as Rey as she builds a new Jedi Order.

I'm not some expert Star Wars pundit or historian like some here. Not sure what to expect about this movie taking place 25,000 years in the past. But, Mangold is a talented writer and director, so I'm sure he will do it right.

re: Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi (D: James Mangold)

“It’s a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the birth of the force,” Mangold told Variety after the panel. “When I first talked to Kathy Kennedy about it, I just said, ‘I just see this opening to make kind of a ‘Ben-Hur’ or ‘The 10 Commandments’ about the birth of the force.’ The force has become a kind of religious legend that spans through all these movies. But where did it come from? How is it found? Who found it? Who was the first Jedi? And that’s what I’m writing right now.”

I’m a big Mangold fan so I’m holding out hope that this will be good. I’m cautiously optimistic.

I’m also hoping that this is evidence that LucasFilm is happy with the quality of his Indiana Jones movie.

Definitely number one of the three movies for me - I love his Biblically epic inspiration for it!

I'll see it for sure, but I mostly feel like the force is somewhat best left unexplained.

Man, I so hope that quote from Mangold that dex posted is sort of misspeak that's referring to the discovery/connection to the Force and not "where the Force itself came from". It's pretty 1:1 with being essentially "impersonal God/ultimate cosmic consciousness" in the films so far. No need to delve into the origin of that, but going back to the wonder and spiritualism of Empire would be awesome.

Well, there was this series from Dark Horse Comics back when the EU was still a thing...

...though I suspect that Lucasfilm is just borrowing the title and the barest concept and it won't any kind of adaption.

Were I in charge of Lucasfilm, I would have multiple theories for the Force existing in the Star Wars universe, but never come out and say which one, if any, was the correct one.

Like, one could be Lucas' idea about the Whills and midichlorians.

And others would believe that the Force was created when the Celestials ascended to a higher state of being.

And another is that the Force was what created the known universe.

Which throws a lot of ideas out there, but still allows the Force to remain mysterious.

I wonder if any of the first Jedi will be able to sense how badly they will fuck over the galaxy in the future?

Beau Willimon hired to co-write the script. If the name doesn't ring a bell, he created House of Cards and was a writer on Andor.

The working title is "Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi"

That dude looks like a human Ewok. He’ll fit right in to the Star Wars universe!

I just hope it's more Logan than Dial Of Destiny. Heck, Knight & Day In Space! would be fun.

You're going to go with "human Ewok" when "ginger George Lucas" was right there?

My friends and I theorized that there was a little creature living in there known as the throat sack monster. As the theory goes, the throat sack monster was controlling George Ratatouille-style and was actually the one responsible for ruining Star Wars.

Missed opportunity to title it simply Dawn of the Jed.
