Re: Paul Sorvino dead at 83

As great as he is in Goodfellas, what I seemed to remember out him most was his outpouring of emotion when his daughter Mira won the Academy Award. I think this is one of the greatest moments of the Oscar telecast, and maybe the only one that doesn't revolve around embarrassment or someone making a fool of themself.

At the 2 minute mark:

Re: Paul Sorvino dead at 83

My mother-in-law played Sorvino’s wife in some tiny movie that I doubt anyone has ever seen. So I like to joke that he’s my honorary father-in-law, even though I never met him.

She just posted a photo from the set with him a few days ago, but I can’t seem to find it at the moment.

EDIT: found it.

Re: Paul Sorvino dead at 83

So, everybody can note his passing by praising his greatest performances.

I'm gonna go ahead and throw it out that playing Worf's brother on ST:TNG was a career low-light.

Re: Paul Sorvino dead at 83

The moment Mira Sorvino won her Oscar and he was in tears was a really sweet and beautiful moment to watch on tv. I'll remember him the most for that, Goodfellas, and the Rocketeer.

Yeah, I mentioned it in one of the other threads that actors known for mob roles are dying off - and this just adds to the list.

He's also another Frank D'Angelo regular who died.

Re: Paul Sorvino dead at 83

I forgot about Cruising.

First time I ever saw him was in the late 70's. He had a good part as the dapper fence in Friedkin's The Bink's Job. Loved that movie.
I definitely saw him pop up occasionally throughout the 80's, but Goodfella's and then the Rocketeer a year later left an indelible impression

That was a sweet moment at the Oscars. Weinstein may have stolen her career, but she was blessed with what truly matters.

Oh man, I just watched him with Caan in the Gambler a few weeks ago. Sorvino was also on the first two seasons of Law and Order as Phil Ceretta.

RIP.

Re: Paul Sorvino dead at 83

RIP

I think in real life he was into opera and the opposite of the tough guy persona he portrays.

He was recently in the Godfather of Harlem the Forrest Whitacker mob drama on EPIX.
