Two Avengers movies in one year. Amazing.
I wonder who will be in the Avengers then.

Feige says The Russo Brothers are not involved with either of these movies

Very strange. Like I said in the Marvel thread, it was suspicious that just a week ago they slipped up and mentioned two films. They've been saying for years that they want to do Secret Wars. The film actually gets announced and they aren't the directors? Pretty odd. Is Marvel Studios really just going to hand what will likely be a back-to-back shoot of their biggest franchise over to someone else who hasn't worked with them before? Who could they give the gig too? Peyton Reed... maybe a consolation if he doesn't do Fantastic 4, which he has been chasing for years? Raimi?

I just hope they keep building Kang up throughout some of the movies after the next Ant-Man and up until The Kang Dynasty. And unless Feige is already locked in on directors, which can still change when directors dropout, I don't buy with 100% certainty that the Russo Brothers will have no involvement.

To heck with Kang, give me Doctor Doom! Doom can make Kang his little b*tch.

Personally I would love to see them hire Jon Favreau. I think he would crush it. But, with him being the main creative force behind the Star Wars TV properties, it's probably unlikely. In 2024 when they would be shooting this, he would likely be working on another season of The Mandalorian.

Take it with a grain of salt, but there is a strong rumor we see Doom in the end credits scene for Wakanda Forever, like we did when Thanos first appeared.

Great news. We now have a director and a good one. The director of Shang-Chi

^Agree to disagree about Cretton being "a good director". He's competent but bland, total Marvel house-style delivered on a Disney+ level of expertise. They could have down worse, but they could have done much better.

Cretton directed a pretty big movie with extensive fight and action sequences, stunts, and visual effects. He did more than just a "competent" job. He did a great job IMO. Not trying to dismiss your opinion, but they got someone in house who can handle a big film like this. And no one knew who the Russos were when they did the 2 Captain America movies. They were just some TV comedy directors. Now they are in demand action movie directors and did The Gray Man.

I know you've mentioned you weren't crazy about Shang-Chi, but it was one of the best reviewed MCU movies both from critics and audiences.

With him doing this, I'm not sure we'll be seeing Shang-Chi 2 anytime soon.

We shall see. I gave Shang-Chi a 6.5 out of 10, maybe a 7. I wasn't crazy about it but I still liked it. The character direction and pacing on Shang-Chi was kind of OK, and those big Marvel action sequences basically direct themselves these days (especially when you have the big slam-bang CGI finales that Shang-Chi unfortunately devolved into).

On a side note, I haven't been impressed with the Russos' non-Marvel film work. It seems less assured and less focused. But then again, that's just me.

Yeah, I collected comics in the late 70, 80 and probably stop in the low 90's and I can't remember much if anything about Kang.

I wonder how much creative control any director has with a major property like this. Sure Gunn, Coogler and Waititi have some freedom with their Stand-alone projects, but a team up like this would presumably have more oversight and less of an individual style.

I think that will depend if Cretton will have a story or writing credit on this. Then he will have more control of his script as a director. But, Feige will be very hands on as a producer for this like previous Avengers movies.

Writer hired

This writer's biggest credit is Antman and the Wasp Quantumania. He was a writer on Rick and Morty and Jimmy Kimmel live.

Writer might be fired No major trade has confirmed this, so it’s rumor as he says.

I wonder at this point if it might not be better to just say the hell with Kang and any projects post writers strike are repositioned to have Doom be the next big baddie. They could wrap anything Loki season 2 leaves hanging on Kang in a single episode of season 3 or the start of the next avengers film.

You mean because of the actors single abuse allegation? Because I’m loving the character and where the story is going.

Or are you talking about the writer? On big movies writers come and go all the time. They pass it off till it incorporates all the key moments that make it what it is.

Ah last I heard there was word that more news was coming out and there were strong rumblings they were looking to get out of working with him though I haven’t looked into it in weeks. If that’s been cleared up (as much as something like that can) then I would just get a new writer for Kang Dynasty and plow forward I suppose though it wouldn’t hurt to have them be able to create the narrative that “Marvel is back on track” as the general consensus on them post End Game hasn’t been great.

Re: Avengers: The Kang Dynasty (5/2/25, D: Cretton)

Until the writers strike is over, there isn't going to be much or any news regarding this movie. That news of the writer possibly being replaced that I posted isn't actually official yet. That's just a Hollywood Insider reporting it.

The reason why he's possibly being replaced? Ant-Man 3 was a dud critically and fell flat in the box office and it seems that Marvel might have 2nd thoughts about handing the keys to their biggest IP to an inexperienced writer.

Talking on The Ringer's House of R podcast, MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios author Joanna Robinson shared an update on where things stand with Avengers: The Kang Dynasty and confirmed Loveness is off the movie.

"I heard from someone recently...the screenwriter Jeff Loveness, who wrote Quantumania, was supposed to write The Kang Dynasty...anyway, it's confirmed. I had it confirmed to me he's no longer working for Marvel," she reveals. "I asked the person why, and they said the reason why is he was all wrapped up in this Kang storyline and they are likely going to be moving away from that."

It seems Marvel Studios lost faith in Loveness being able to continue Kang's story, though the bigger issue may be the fact they're considering moving on from the time-traveller altogether. The Loki season 2 finale potentially went some way in helping with that, and it would be easy enough for a new big bad to take credit for destroying the Council of Kangs. Heck, maybe Loki himself can remove those Variants from his new Multiverse.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings director Destin Daniel Cretton remains attached to helm The Kang Dynasty, but if the movie is undergoing significant story changes, then who knows if that's still the case.
