VAL (2021) -- Val Kilmer documentary
Who is Val Kilmer? He's Batman. He's Iceman. He's Jim Morrison. And he's a lifelong filmmaker. Get re-acquainted with the legend on August 6.

Looks good. I'm really wondering if his role in the Top Gun sequel was changed/cut due to his physical limitations. (I'm assuming it's his funeral hinted at in the trailers)

That sucks, I did not know he had throat cancer since around 2016.
I'll have to check out this documentary for sure and read up on Val, always been a fan of his.

In "The Snowman" he was dubbed and sounded pretty strange. I thought he was to quiet due to his illness, but I didn't know he can hardly speak.

Who’s doing the narration in that trailer? It sounds like a young Val but then he talks about his current voice problems even though the voice in the narration doesn’t sound bad.

I like him in some roles, but I’m not really a big fan of him. I might still watch this though.

I'll watch. I wonder if they will touch on what a massive ego he had and the jerk he was...

Actress Daryl Hannah was the love of his life and the break-up with her really effected him deeply. I wonder if she'll be in the doc?

Re: VAL (2021) -- Val Kilmer documentary
Years ago they filmed Salton Sea at my job and Val was with some of the film crew and some of our crew eating dinner (overnight shoot) and he took a bite of steak, chewed it, made a face, and spit out the glob of food onto the floor in front of everybody. His crew didn't say anything, but we rolled our eyes like, "this fucking guy." It's ironic that Salton Sea was released like 2 years later, but it's a good flick. The scene at my job is only in it for a few seconds, too.

I always heard he was an asshole, but hopefully age and his medical condition have mellowed him.

I will watch this as it looks really good with all of the footage. However, it's obvious it will be pretty one sided with the presentation of Kilmer. It appears it will gloss over his time and divorce from Joanne Whalley as well as his notoriously bad behavior during movie shoots.

Judging from some of the blurbs, this will indeed cover some of his notoriously bad behavior.

I don't care...Fuck Him he had it all and pissed on everyone. Why anyone cares is beyond me. Yeah he is humble these day NO ONE will hire him and for good reason. I can't wait for the Alec Baldwin one of these.
Should be in about a year or two.

I think the last time he was not an asshole was around the time he did Twixt for Francis Coppola. There's a documentary on the BD on the making of Twixt by Coppola's granddaughter(?) and Kilmer is in great spirits cracking jokes and even having fun with some random people near the set of filming. A woman asks him to do a Doc Holiday impression and he obliges.

I don’t think Val Kilmer compares to Alec Baldwin. Alec is still a draw and still a name. Sure he had a shitty off camera life that was documented more than once and of course hates the paparazzi, and maybe one or 2 spats on set, but I think he is still generally well liked. Tracy Morgan and Tina Fey still speak highly of him from 30 Rock. He still does good stuff, though why he wanted to do a game show was beyond me. Alec has been solid throughout. Val not so much at all.

This. It's like he was a jerk in his younger days but seems to be finally mellowing out with age. Not unlike Bill Shatner (who was unbearable to deal with through most of the 1980s).

Watched this today. Very well made edited and worth seeing. It kind of leaves it up to the viewer concerning Kilmer's character. It does cover his reputation of being a jerk, and there are points (Dr. Moreau set footage in particular) where his actions make him come across as one. However, it did seem at times like they were trying to make excuses for his behavior as him being an actor trying to make art in a world of business. Not exactly something I bought, but at least they didn't duck it altogether. I do think he may have had something with the Mark Twain performances, and it's a shame he got sick before it could get more notoriety. I also think that this movie could work well as a supplement to the "Doors" movie , as the similarities between his approach to life and Morrison are quite similar.
That said, I am curious as to how much footage of him and Joanne Whalley could not be used because she didn't really want to be that big a part of the story? They touch on their marriage a fair amount, and the divorce looked like it was a nasty one, yet she does appear towards the end and they seem to be on amicable terms now. Part of me wonders if one of the contributing factors to the divorce was some professional jealousy on her part, as her career never really took off like his after so many years of marriage.
