Summer of Soul (2021 D: Questlove)

Seeing this tonight, I think it's also streaming on Hulu starting today. It looks absolutely fantastic.

Yeah this is playing at my local AMC, I’m planning to see this tomorrow. The music and old concert footage should look great on the big screen.

Super excited to watch it on HULU! I have a feeling it will be an ecstatic-type barn-burner. Just a hunch ...

The film is great though. Stevie Wonder’s drum solo.

That 5th Dimension segment was awesome. It’s crazy that this footage sat unseen for 50 years.
I met Questlove once at an event in Central Park. Nice guy.

Saw a matinee of this today. Really well done documentary. Amazing that this huge event was filmed but completely forgotten. Some really great acts performed in it. As he ^^ said Sly and the Family Stone was the highlight. Also thought Nina Simone's set was mesmerizing.
Loved seeing Stevie Wonder and a very young Gladys Knight and the Pips.
If you have any interest at all in classic R&B, Funk and Soul music, watch this film. It's on Hulu as well.
It was cool seeing it on the big screen in Dolby, but as dex says the concert footage is blurry 4:3 standard definition shot on video tape, so it's not really enhanced by a premium format.

Looks good.
I guess I’m a square. I had to look up what a “Jawn” was.

Fantastic documentary and required viewing for music fans and white people! I hope a triple disc physical release comes out though, because I could stand a few hours of unadulterated concert footage.
I really liked the bits with the performers watching themselves from a remove of 50 years!

I loved seeing Stevie right on the cusp of a huge change. People know the story of his Motown audition where he supposedly played every instrument in the studio?

Saw it in the theater yesterday and loved it. Part of me wishes I had streamed it at home because I wanted to dance. I have my fingers crossed that Criterion snaps this up and gives it the full Monterey Pop Festival treatment with all the performances that weren't included in the documentary.
