DC Comics' Deadman (Arcel, Del Toro) - News, Rumors, Cast, Etc
http://www.variety.com/article/VR111...goryid=13&cs=1
Nikolaj Arcel to take on 'Deadman'
WB, Guillermo del Toro to produce comic adaptation
By DAVE MCNARY
Danish helmer Nikolaj Arcel is on tap to bring "Deadman" to life for Warner Bros. with Guillermo del Toro, Angry Films' Don Murphy and Murphy's partner Susan Montford producing the DC Comics adaptation.
Deadman is the ghost of a murdered circus acrobat who has the power to possess the living in order to seek out his killer as well as to help the innocent. The character first appeared in 1967 and was created by writer Arnold Drake and artist Carmine Infantino.
Warner Bros. set up the project three years ago as a potential directing vehicle for del Toro, with Gary Dauberman penning the adaptation (Daily Variety, Dec. 4, 2006).
Arcel's directing credits include Danish films "King's Game" and "Island of Lost Souls."
He's repped by ICM.

As long as they keep the quirky humor of the character, I'm there.

Ditto. This should be interesting. Amazed to see WB picking this character but also pleased that maybe they're willing to take chances as well with the DC characters.

Been one of my favorite comic characters since the 1970s, never thought I'd see a big budget Hollywood treatment.

Del Toro gives me a bit of Hope for this but I'm still kinda worried it'll get messed up.

This will have to be a sarcastically dark tale. I'm hoping that Warner is getting desperate and is totally willing on risking it for obscure characters with a production team that is top-notch.

DC's Deadman Movie -- News, rumors, etc.
Last week we talked about the Black Cat film. This week, we’re bringing you an update on Justice League Dark, and in particular, Deadman.
Warner Bros. is moving towards Justice League Dark. Although they are trying the approach similar to Marvel’s Avengers films, by introducing the Justice League Dark characters in their own movies before putting them in a team-up.
We already know that Emerald Fennell is working on a Zatanna movie. However, DC and Warner Bros. are working hard to bring more characters to the big screen, and introduce them in a way where each film is unique and fresh, but also works towards a larger narrative.
We can exclusively share that a Deadman movie is next in DC’s development slate for Justice League Dark films. The movie will explore the character’s origin, his murder, and his attempts to discover who murdered him and bring his murderer to justice.

This screams that it’s another project that will be stuck in development hell and will probably never come to fruition.

Either that or, like Blue Beetle, will land on HBO Max rather than a theatrical release. Given I doubt it'd be a big budget, would make for a worthwhile investment for the platform.

or just the endless pile of DC film projects that are announced as in development and we never hear about them again.
