Army of Thieves (2021, D: Schweighöfer) - prequel to Army of the Dead
Zack Snyder’s zombie movie Army of the Dead, out in theaters this weekend and on Netflix next weekend, is getting two different follow-up projects, including a prequel anime series titled “Army of the Dead: Lost Vegas.” The other project is a live-action prequel movie titled Army of Thieves, and Netflix has shared an official plot synopsis for that movie this week.
Matthias Schweighöfer is directing Army of Thieves, a prequel movie that will center on his character that we’ll first be meeting in Snyder’s Army of the Dead. His name is Dieter.
In Army of Thieves…
“A mysterious woman recruits bank teller Dieter to assist in a heist of impossible-to-crack safes across Europe.”

I'm excited to see Schweighöfer's directorial debut in Hollywood. His movies in Germay are one and the same. By the numbers romcoms. He's directed 4 movies so far and they are all forgettable and stupid.

Snyder says "coming soon" there, but I've read where it says this fall. Originally, I had read that it was set for a winter release. The sooner the better.

I'm still not understanding this ... a sequel ... err .. prequel to a zombie heist movie about a heist that occurs during the zombie outbreak but has nothing to do with zombies.

Yeah. The zombie outbreak is limited to Las Vegas. This leads up to Army. It's a caper film.

that looks pretty good. i stupidly thought this was a sequel to Army of Dead and zombies and stuff, glad this looks totally different track. might be the same with this Snyder deal with NF. at least so far they are not complete shit, But Army of series could be fun with these new characters and scenarios, i love con/thieving movies and this could be great. like an early Ritchie. Love it's on NF. got to see AotD though..

Eh, I’ll check it out but it looks clichéd as fuck. Robbing banks with masks of ex-presidents? C’mon!
I’m still not sure how removing the most interesting aspect of Army of the Dead will help this. I guess we’ll see.
At least this isn’t directed by Snyder. Although being directed by the guy who plays Dieter doesn’t instill me with a ton of confidence.

I am still not quite grasping the idea here.
I actually enjoyed Army of the Dead and think they came up with some great characters ... and I believe this will be a fun movie ... but ... I don't care to know what they were doing before.
It's like making a movie like Adventures in Babysitting and setting it as Jamie Lee Curtis's last babysitting gig before Halloween.

Started watching this very early this morning. Not bad, so far (had to stop to do my cardiac measurements I do every day two hours after I took my meds). Yeah, if you're looking for zombie action, it's pretty much on the fringe. Ludwig, the safecracker, has nightmare about zombies, since a zombie apocalypse is taking place. Cast is pretty good. Korine is super easy on the eyes. Gwen ain't too bad, either. Light-hearted and fun.
I guess with wall-to-wall zombie, no one is interested in this.

I was in the mood for a heist movie so I watched this without having seen the original. 
I thought it was entertaining and fairly light (except for the zombie interludes). Even though we’re past October, I’ll probably have to watch the original now.

Watched it yesterday and enjoyed it. Able to stand on it's own but did enough tie in with Army of the Dead to show the connection.

Enjoyed this wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy more than I thought I would. I thought it was pretty decent and overall I would recommend.

This was fantastic! Beat the shit out of Army of the Dead. No Snyder direction, a much cleaner plot (I certainly didn't notice any aliens) and they didn't do things like forget characters they've introduced. What a concept!

Yea... I enjoyed this way more than Army of the Dead as well. Schweighöfer kind of reminded me of a German Stephen Chow.

I watched about 5 minutes of Army of the Dead and turned it off.
I watched Army of Thieves and really enjoyed it. Not sure why there was a need to make this a prequel. The zombie scenes served zero purpose and this film could be its own franchise without a zombie plot.
