Re: Albums Bought (2020)

Just came in the mail a minute ago, so I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet, but...! Beach Bunny's "Honeymoon": the first of at least three albums I'm getting this month.

Willie Nile has a new album coming out this year, which has me thrilled, but I'm balking at contributing to the PledgeMusic drive because of the $15 for shipping, which is highway robbery. The signed CD itself is $30. I find $45 for a CD exorbitant, as much as I'd like to support this guy and his great music. I'll have to cogitate some, but chances are I'll just wait for it to be released and pay $15.

I've been listing my albums bought over in the Vinyl thread. I've always leaned towards older music anyway, but recently I've discovered a local store with just a literal ton of albums, all 5 bucks a pop. You really gotta dig to find the good stuff, but it is there. At 5 bucks, you're more willing to take a chance on something you may have only heard about. I've been finding some real gems, along with several oddities (like a record by Michael Parks, who got a late career rise in popularity by appearing in Tarantino, Rodriguez, and Kevin Smith movies). You look at a collection like this:

and wonder just how many amazing records are there, but you never got to hear because the label didn't promote it right, or the artist didn't have the right "look", or the music on it was either ahead of its time or in a style that was no longer popular. I've been walking out of there with literal armloads of records and enjoying the hell out of most of them (with a few turkeys sprinkled in, but it's the price you pay, and at only 5 bucks, it's not a steep price)

I just got the CD in the mail a couple of minutes ago, although there've been so many music videos that I've heard the majority of the album anyway.

Picked up the new ones by Ratboys (really enjoyed seeing them open for PUP last year) and PEARS.

That's a good compilation.
My pickups this week:
Swedish melodic black metal with a pinch of old school thrash:

Finnish black/folk/pagan/melancholic metal (oh shit, they blend so many different genres in this!):

Plus the vinyl remasters of Destroyer and Rock and Roll Over from KISS, that I picked up dirt cheap on Deep Discount.
