Yeah, the song title is appropriate for me too. Album releases November 1st.

I dig it.

Re: Brand new ELO album (10/1/19)

I liked ELO when I was a teenager. I still have the mylar poster from Out of the Blue. But when I checked out their greatest hits a few years ago, I thought the music was dull. I don't know how to explain it. I think the songs came across as the product of a small number of tricks assembled in different orders.

Hopefully it'll be the Xanadu follow up we've all been waiting for.

Always happy to hear more "classic" rock from music artists that came up during the 70's. Zoom and Alone in the Universe are fine albums as well.

I don't know if you're joking, but that wouldn't be a bad thing IMO. That was a great pop album.

I don't know, this sort of has a The Traveling Wilburys vibe to it. I'm one of those who prefers the original ELO of the 70's with the original band members and the sound they had then.

I agree with you. "Discovery" was ELO's last great album IMO. This new one is very similar in style to 2015's "Alone in the Universe". And yes, I can see the Traveling Wilburys comparison. It's still a very good album. It's just not as poppy or radio friendly like anything they did in the 70's. Congratulation though for it's success.

This isn’t the ELO that was the old band though.
Its “Jeff Lynn’s ELO” which is just him and whatever band members he has currently.

i haven’t listened to this yet but I did watch the live show he recently released and its pretty good.

That's live. Album-wise it is just basically him. Writer, producer, plays almost every instrument and note, etc. But it has been that way with him for a long time, even with the last couple of "true" ELO albums.

I like the album and it has some decent stuff but sounds nothing like a mid-70's ELO album. It is basically a rehash of his solo albums and the "ELO" albums he has done since Discovery...not that that is a bad thing if you like him and his style.

Discussing anything released by himself (no producer credits or Traveling Wilburys) past "Balance Of Power," he still hasn't surpassed his first solo album "Every Little Thing" or even "Zoom" but it is still an enjoyable listen. Better than most of the Top 40 shit that is out there now. So get off my lawn!

Re: Brand new ELO album (11/01/19)

I'm a career long fan of ELO. Sadly the first time I ever saw them live was in 2018 and then again this year. A friend of mine saw the "Out of the Blue" tour back in 1978 and then again on these recent tours, and said Jeff's current band is just as great as the original lineup. Probably even better. His words. I'll agree that the original band's studio work is 100,000 x better than the new stuff. But these past two tours were pretty amazing.

We are the same. I just saw Jeff Lynne live for the first time this year as well and it was a fantastic concert. I couldn't really see him before because I was too young so at least I had that excuse. As far as I know, he didn't do any tours at all in the U.S. until this last year. He had one 6 city show the year prior but that was it. I planned to see him for the U.S. "Zoom" tour but then it got cancelled.

I love Jeff Lynne and basically own most everything he has ever done. I am convinced that even the sound of him taking a shit is catchy.
