Re: Designated Survivor (ABC) -- Season 2 Thread -- Premieres 9/27/17
I'm actually glad this is being released in the summer.
I need to finish the last 6 or 7 episodes of season 2. It just fell off my must see viewing last year and it didn't help when the 2nd season became West Wing light and not the serialized political thriller the 1st season was. This show really struggled with it's creative direction.
But I did watch that short recap with Kiefer above and it sounds like if you bailed on season 2, you can come right back.

Also watched 2 eps so far, it looks like it's building like episode of the week with background trend on the main storylines, I'm ok with that.

I'm a little over 2 in, and one thing's for sure. They know they're allowed to say "FUCK!" now.

This show is weird. The tone of the show is like completely different. Hard to explain it. It doesn't have the same "feel" as the previous 2 seasons.

Agree. It's much more serialized now. Rather than having one off episodes, this is following a very linear story line. Not to mention they're jamming topical politics in almost every scene.

I am somewhat ok with DS, and will watch all 10 episodes BUT it definitely is not the series it was. Many characters and arcs from season 1-2 are 'gone' or missing (with no explanation or backfill) and that is bothersome to me.

Episode 1 also slapped us in the face with "Hey, look we're on Netflix now" with them swearing like every sentence. I found that un-needed.

This whole documentary angle is fucking weird. These are real videos of real people used in the show. This went from a political show with some action, to like some social commentary on how the U.S. is fucked up. It's bizarre at how much the show changed.
Man, I am not liking how this season has turned out at all.

I've watched 4 shows so far, I'm enjoying it for the most part, more than season 2 which seemed to lack direction and was merely episodes of the week. I am somewhat bothered by Lyor and Mike being gone, but the new cast is fine. I grew tired of Maggie Q constantly in action scenes, not she chats a bit more.

Watched ep3 last night. Enjoyable still but too topical. I appreciate that they're trying to draw attention to real issues but I watch the show for entertainment. The campaign manager is entertaining, at least.
Seth's side story with his daughter was super awkward but well done.

Finished the season. Overall it was pretty good, better than season 2.
They were quite political with a lot of storylines, racism, trans-gender issues, homosexuality, voter suppression, etc. I didn't mind it too much but I can see how it will bother quite a few people.
A few susprises in the season too.

We're still chipping away but haven't found the season to be binge-worthy. I wish the side story with the virus was the main story of the season rather than the election. They're trying to cram too much real politics into the show.

Watched the first 3 episodes last night. Vast improvement over last season. I was never much into the action aspect of the show.
And damn, the years have not been kind to Lauren Holly. She used to be one of my favorites in the '90s (Picket Fences).

Wow surprised by the death in episode 7. Didn't see that coming.

I'm half way through and finding it a real chore
I don't want to see a show about a political campaign
The Maggie K stuff is good but so infrequent
Is the second half better ?

This show isn't 24. It's not some action thriller, it's a political drama. If you find that boring, watch something else.

That's not entirely true. There was plenty of action/investigation in the first 2 seasons. It wasn't 24, but the show completely pivoted. I fished it last night. I am not a fan of the direction the show took. All the social issues became so preachy.

Killing off the Hannah Wells character the way they did i think is the death nail for this show
Her death had no real value in what was turning into an interesting side story
I know her character connect to the main characters had gotten so distant but still
If your going to kill her off, let her go off in a blaze of glory

I just noticed that Netflix is carrying a Korean remake of the show, with episodes appearing weekly.

I'm sorry, i'm watching episode 8
Black lady in the lab with the master villian, suspects it's him
She walks outside the lab and makes a phone call right outside the lab with her back to the door, does she walk fast/sprint as fast as possible away and then make the call when a safe distance away? no ! Does she make the call whilst keeping eyes through the window on the villian ? no !
Back to the fucking door, leaving yourself vunerable as fuck
grrrr
