NBC wins September to May Ratings 5th in last 6 years

Remember the old days when they were struggling and none of their shows worked.

What is more important ratings or total viewers? CBS has more total viewers.

I think it will be hard next season for CBS with Big Bang Theory gone.

With two nights left to count, NBC is poised to win its third-straight September-to-May season in TV ratings — its fifth victory in six years. CBS will pretty comfortably take the traditional Nielsen season in terms of total viewers.NBC edging out CBS for a victory in the advertiser-coveted adults 18-49 demographic is impressive considering that it didn’t have the Super Bowl, “Thursday Night Football” (which was previously shared by NBC and CBS, but moved to Fox last fall) or the Winter Olympics over the 2018-19 TV season — all of which aired on the network during the 2017-18 span.

Meanwhile, CBS broadcast this year’s big game and the final season of its long-running ratings star “The Big Bang Theory,” but also felt the loss of “TNF.”The last time NBC did not win the September-to-May season in the key 18-49 demo was back in 2015-16, the last time CBS had the Super Bowl.

When it comes to the overall-eyeballs competition, CBS reigns supreme for its 11th straight season (and 16th out of 17) with an average of 8.9 million total viewers. NBC comes in second, scoring 7.2 million viewers, ABC is in third with 5.6 million, Fox is close behind with 5.4 million, and The CW is in fifth place with 1.3 million.

I also remember the days when NBC was the butt of all the jokes, but lately I’ve been watching more NBC shows than any other network shows.

NBC seems to care about the fans and isn’t quick to cancel shows. I mean, I didn’t think Superstore would last as long as it has. They were smart enough to pickup Brooklyn 99. At this point, I wish they would cancel Blacklist and Blindspot, just because I’ve seen everything I need to with those shows. Storylines are played out.

That just means CBS viewers are OLD. Demos are more important because that's what networks use in sales.

Blindspot has been off for a couple of weeks so maybe the end is near if they are airing episodes now when the traditional TV season is over.

Blindspot was already renewed for a 5th and final season.

To me the big thing is realizing almost no one watches the CW.

At least not with the big numbers. Has seven shows on my side. Had to look up what NBC even has.

Ratings are dismal across the board these days, and a majority of this win is due to Sunday Night Football (with a minor assist from This Is Us).

Sounds about right. Amazing that lasted as long as it did. Main networks don't seem to like anything that different.

And it's been that way for decades...even in the 1980s, CBS pulled in the "older" audience. I think a lot of it has to do with CBS News (everyone watched Cronkite in the 70s) and 60 Minutes.
