Following the much buzzed about wrestling docuseries DARK SIDE OF THE RING, which is posting some of the network's biggest ratings to date, VICELAND premieres THE WRESTLERS on May 22 at 10pm ET. Hosted by hardcore musician and life-long wrestling fan Damian Abraham (lead singer for the Canadian punk band Fucked Up), the series goes beyond the world of mainstream professional wrestling to dive into the vibrant, fascinating and bizarre subcultures in the wrestling universe around the world. From Lucha Libre in Mexico to the women's wrestling scene in Japan to voodoo wrestling in Congo and countless points between.

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· Damian Abraham as Host

CREW INFORMATION:
· Chris Grosso as EP (Viceland)
· Damian Abraham as CO-PROD
· Jeff Petry as DIR/PROD
· Nathan Drillot as DIR/PROD

I’ve heard good things about Dark Side of the Ring. As a somewhat fan of wrestling I’m interested, but I’m curious as to how long a series can really sustain itself. There are a lot of interesting stories from the business, but I’m not sure there are that many. Unless the seasons are short.

I think there are enough for them to make several more 5 season episodes. Sadly, too many deaths in the industry have opened the book for interesting stories. On top of my head, I can think of

- Chris Benoit murder-suicide
- Death of Dino Bravo
- Death of Eddie Guerrero
- Death of Art Barr
- Death of Owen Hart
- Death of Brian Pillman
- The Jimmy Snuka murder
- The Ken Patera arrest
- The McMahon steroid trial
- The Pat Patterson allegations
- Vince buying the territories
- The death of Kayfabe
- An unbiased Monday Night Wars episode
- The life and death of Ultimate Warrior
- The rise and fall of Lex Luger

Yeah, there’s enough material for some short seasons. If they even did like ten a season they’d run out of the really juicy stories pretty fast. One thing about a lot of these is I’ve heard the stories various ways (shoots, documentaries, seeing them play out, etc.), but I guess this is probably for a more casual fan.
