Record Store Day 2019

So anyone in here still venture out? I'll be hitting a few stores in hopes of gathering a few.
I did notice one that I was really hoping to get was no longer on the list. Does this happen often?

Hoping to grab:
Cheech & Chong - Up in Smoke 7"
Halestorm - "Buzz" / "Chemical"
Pink Floyd - A Saucerful of Secrets (Mono)
The Crow (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

Was wanting Dio - "Last in Line Live" picture disc but it's been removed from the list.

I don't do vinyl but I think the idea behind Record Store Day is pretty neat. Hopefully you all get what you set out for.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

I got back into a few years ago for nostalgia reasons.
I had some really nice equipment back in the day that belonged to my dad and now wish I hadn't sold it (lost my ass on it!) but he also gave me all his vinyl.
I ended up giving them to my brother years ago, who was into vinyl and I have no idea where it all is anymore. I think his ex-wife gave them away This is stuff my dad had as teen in the early '70s and up.
Anyway. I just got a wild hair and started collecting again even though I have no way of playing them, at least not yet. I'm looking around for a turntable these days but the good shit is so expensive.

I like the intention and idea but I kinda hate of what it has become. The damage has been done mostly by scalpers, people who don't care 2 shits about vinyl but go to this event to buy rare stuff to re-sell online for hundreds of dollars. It ruins the fun for people like me who buy for ourselves and not to resell

I agree. It's become too much of a circus. At this point, I'd rather just support my local record stores by shopping there on other days.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

I've gotten into Vinyl over the last few years and have found it hard to find the titles I want for this, gets a little frustrating. Only thing I am really looking for this year is the John Hiatt/Lilly Hiatt one and that is only a single unfortunately. I did get the Tom Petty American Treasure from the black Friday RSD but IMO having at least two events - april and black friday dilutes from the spirit of the day.

I agree. I can't really be bothered with RSD, anymore, due to this.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

The only thing I want is the Thrice EP, but I can't be bothered to go to the stores to hunt for it, knowing that scalpers will likely get there before me anyway.
I just hope they do a non-RSD release of it down the road. I'm fine with RSD-exclusive variants, but really don't like when the RSD version is the only one that's ever made available.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

I'll be lining up at 7ish, hope to snag a few things like the Albert King Under a bad Sign and Bill Evans in England.. Alternative Fleetwood Mac among others... the line wasn't too bad last year, but I think it will be much worse this year for some reason... I try not to take it too serious we will see what happens

Re: Record Store Day 2019

I'll hit up the two stores in my neighborhood - namely because they have food and its generally a good time. Might pick up the following if I feel like it and copies are available - won't ruin my weekend if I don't get any of them. I also see they're selling a tiny record player that plays 3" records. Sounds silly.

Badfinger - rarities
Dylan - Blood on the Tracks test pressing
Houndmouth 7"
Robert Plant - Fate of Nations
Roxy Music - remixes
Hillbillies In Hell vol. 8
Tony Joe White - live ACL

Re: Record Store Day 2019

I usually visit five or six stores on RSD. There’s a fair amount this year I’m looking for and have written down somewhere.
off the top of my head:
Badfinger
Bob Dylan
Pink Floyd
Brett Smiley
Hillbillies In Hell

Re: Record Store Day 2019

Ugh, well a good friend is getting married that day, and on a boat in the ocean, so I’m going to miss out. I’m hoping that some of what I want will still be available Monday.
My wishlist:
Jerry Garcia Band -Electric on the Eel
Grateful Dead - Warfield, Sage & Spirit
Pink Floyd - Saucerful of Secrets
Allman Brothers - Filmore 1970

Pink Floyd's A Saucerful Of Secrets in MONO is more important than your own wedding let alone some one elses.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

My list:

Green River - Live at the Tropicana ‘84
L7 - Burn Baby 7”
Motorhead - Overkill/Bomber double 7”
My Chemical Romance - The Black Parade is Dead 2LP
VA - Crow Soundtrack 2LP

Also might be interested in Ramones Live at the Palladium if it isn’t too expensive.

I was able to score the Guns ‘n Roses “Shadow of Your Love” single and Judas Priest “Rocka Rolla” LP on Coke bottle green vinyl last time, so I’ll try for this one.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

OK, weird question but what is with the mono re-issues? I mean Floyd was known for quadraphonic stereo sound mixes, so why would this be desirable?

Re: Record Store Day 2019

Went to a record show with a buddy last weekend. He ended up getting a UK mono press of Saucer. We went back to my house to listen to it and I prefer the stereo RP copy I have from '69.

The mono's weren't released in the US initially so part of the 2019 re-release is that.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

The Black Friday list is up: https://recordstoreday.com/SpecialReleases

Only one I have to have is Saturday Morning Cartoons' Greatest Hits. Had that on CD (and Laserdisc!) back in the day. Great performances of cartoon-oriented songs like Liz Phair and Material Issue doing the Banana Splits Song (not as good as The Dickies', but still fun), Tanya Donnelly and Juliana Hatfield's Josie and the Pussycats, The Ramones' Spider-Man, Face to Face's Popeye, Sublime's Hong Kong Phooey, The Murmurs' HR Pufnstuf, and Wax's Happy Happy Joy Joy.

I will be getting this. (Mainly because I am friends with Erik, collect live recordings and I had a teeny tiny hand in the documentary they are making about the recording)

Re: Record Store Day 2019

Quite a bit of stuff I'm interested in...

Lessee...

Pearl Jam "MTV Unplugged"

Runaways "Live in Japan"

Joe Satriani "Surfing with the Alien" 2xLP

Slipknot "All Out of Life"/"Unsainted" 7" Picture Disc

Dio "Rainbow in the Dark" (Live) Picture Disc

Venom "Manitou" Picture Disc

Maybe... Frehley's Comet Live

Six things... if they limit two RSD items per person, I'll need to bring two extra people with me.

Re: Record Store Day 2019

I've been holding off buying new records lately due to the frustratingly high prices. that said, I may eventually get the Patsy Cline and Lou Reed albums along with a few singles (Kinks, Hank, Willie)
