THURSDAY, APRIL 4
SERIES PREMIERE
IN THE DARK
"Pilot" - (9:00-10:00 p.m. ET) (TV-14, DLS) (HDTV)
SERIES PREMIERE - Murphy (Perry Mattfeld, "Shameless") is a hard-living, hard-drinking, disaffected twenty-something with a penchant for cigarettes and casual sex. She's also blind. Murphy lives with her supportive best friend, Jess (Brooke Markham), and - more reluctantly - her trusty guide dog, Pretzel, whose presence she resents. Her parents, Hank (Derek Webster) and Joy (Kathleen York), own a guide dog school, a venture they opened hoping it would give Murphy a job with some purpose. Murphy's closest friend is a sweet teenager named Tyson (Thamela Mpumlwana), whose kindness and intelligence are currently going to waste as he deals drugs on the street for his older cousin, Darnell (Keston John). Murphy's life comes crashing down when, while out for a walk with Pretzel, she stumbles upon what she's sure is the lifeless body of Tyson in the alley outside her apartment. But when the police arrive, including a salt-of-the-earth detective named Dean (Rich Sommer), there is no body to be found - and with Murphy not exactly sober, the police aren't especially inclined to investigate. Murphy is devastated, and the only thing holding her back from spiraling downward even further is her resolve to learn what happened to Tyson. Morgan Krantz and Casey Deidrick also star. Michael Showalter directed the episode written by Corinne Kingsbury (#101). Original airdate 4/4/2019.

This was one of the strangest network pilots I've seen in years. I was taken aback by the negative vibe and edgy emotional content. That can work in a two-hour movie, but it's very difficult in an ongoing television series. Most viewers need likable characters to return week after week. It's a hard sell when the only likable character is the dog.
I'm giving it a couple of episodes to see if the characters develop, but In The Dark is going to be a very tough sell to the usual CW audience.

I watched this last night. I kind of liked the friendship between the main character and the guy who got murdered. It wasn't a great pilot. But, I'll keep watching it to see if it improves.

I may be the only person still watching In The Dark on this site. The show did improve after the pilot. They've slowly but surely softened the blind female lead. Giving her a romantic interest has done wonders. The show almost works as counter-programming to most of the stuff on the CW these days. There is a murder mystery weaved throughout the season so far, but it's really how Murphy navigates life with her major trust issues.
They also don't softball her blindness. Half the show's plots revolve around her blindness and stubborn attitude causing problems.

Wow, I don't think anyone expected that plot swerve in last week's episode. Methinks that was a last-minute change-up due to potential cast changes for next season. Season finale is this week.
And yes, In The Dark somehow got renewed.

Not that anyone here watched last season, but In The Dark's second season starts in April.

After enjoying season one's murder investigation and the dark turn they took with one of the main characters, the showrunners pull a terrible stunt in season two's first episode. Since they didn't want to get rid of that character, they got him out of the murder charge with a laughably bad heel turn by the police.
Not to mention dumping the romantic male lead completely. For a show I enjoyed, the entire scenario and how it unfolded now makes In The Dark almost unwatchable for me. Very, very disappointing after a strong first season.

Stumbled across this show on Netflix. Just finished season one in about 10 days and I loved it!
Great lead actress. Nice, simple detective story with a great ending.
Will start season 2 later.

The show is definitely off-beat and goes for something different than most network drama these days. They had a nice one-season arc that left them boxed into a corner. It's almost like they hadn't planned on getting renewed for a second season.

Just finished season 2 and LOVED it! I had way more fun with season’s 2 plot and the group’s crazy antics trying to launder money and move drugs.
Felix’s comedic characteristics were the highlight of the season. Good character development.
I will definitely check out season 3 when it airs on CW, instead of waiting for it on Netflix.
Serial dramas are my favorite and this show delivers.

I stumbled across this on Netflix a few weeks ago randomly and ended up binging all three seasons. First season was great I thought, second season was decent, and the third season was a bit of a hot mess, but I stuck with it for some closure. Amazed to hear that this has been renewed for a fourth season, supposedly hitting CW in July 2022. Should be interesting to see where they take things from here.

Yea, the 3rd season was too crazy for me. I could use a new storyline (not drug related, something completely different)

We are currently on season 3 after finding this on Netflix. Love the first 2 seasons. Not liking that comments about season 3 so far but we will stick it out.

i really liked the first season but it kind of fizzled out and I can't even remember where I left off on the series. Don't know at this point if I even made it to season 3. I don't think I knew this was a CW series to start so that might explain a lot.

Umm...yeah season 3 is a mess we are 5 episodes in and my wife is hating it. For those that finished it is there some conclusion? OR a cliffhanger for season 4?
I will finish with or without her as Perry Mattfeld is great in the role.

The story will definitely continue into Season 4. Basically, I don't expect a fresh storyline not involving drugs.

Finished it. What a shitshow season 3 was.
Murphy could not have become more unlikeable. We won't watch season 4.
