Hulu's upcoming original limited series The Act, will debut Wednesday, March 20 with two episodes, and subsequent episodes released every Wednesday on Hulu. The Act is a seasonal anthology series that tells startling, stranger-than-fiction true crime stories. The first season follows Gypsy Blanchard, a girl trying to escape the toxic relationship she has with her overprotective mother. Her quest for independence opens a Pandora's box of secrets, one that ultimately leads to murder. The Act stars Patricia Arquette, Joey King, Chloë Sevigny, AnnaSophia Robb and Calum Worthy. Based on the article "Dee Dee Wanted Her Daughter To Be Sick, Gypsy Wanted Her Mom To Be Murdered" by Michelle Dean, the series is written and executive produced by Dean and Nick Antosca alongside Greg Shephard and Britton Rizzio who also serve as executive producers.

PRINCIPAL CAST INFORMATION:
· AnnaSophia Robb as Lacey
· Calum Worthy as Nick
· Chloë Sevigny as Mel
· Joey King as Gypsy Blanchard
· Patricia Arquette as Dee Dee

CREW INFORMATION:
· Britton Rizzio as EP
· Greg Shephard as EP
· Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre as DIR (Pilot)
· Michelle Dean as CRTR/EP
· Nick Antosca as CRTR/EP
The first season is 8 episodes. The topic of this season was also covered in an HBO documentary. I think there was a Lifetime movie as well.

I think Casefile covered it in a podcast as well. I am already familiar with the story so I may pass on it.

I'll give this a shot, as I'm unfamiliar with the story. Only watched part of the trailer so I would go in blind-ish.

So I guess this is Patricia Arquette's TV role from now on - playing some sort of scammer/accomplice.

Didn't recognize Patricia Arquette nor AnnaSophia Robb at first despite them being front and center. Chloe Sevigny looked a few years younger than usual.

inheitantly watchable even though you know exactly where it's going.

I had DVR'd the Lifetime movie and watched it after watching the first two episodes of The Act. The Act is much better than the movie. Gypsy Rose's family is in contact with a writer and they're to develop their own drama show on the story.

I finally started watching this last week, and took in an episode each night.

I thought it was very good and think it deserves more attention than it's getting.

Don't know exactly what was embellished from the real life story, but just based on this series I found it heartbreaking.
I'm not sure if in real life the mother was this bad, and if the daughter was this nice/good - but I felt total sympathy for the daughter even after what she did. She basically never had a life and won't get to start one until her mid 30's.

Joey King gave a great performance. Man, she was always a cute girl but she's grown into a beautiful woman. Even with her head shaved and without being dolled up - it's hard to hide her very pretty face.
The guy who played her boyfriend was terrific as well.

Definitely worth watching if you haven't... probably even if you've seen the documentary already.
