Obnoxious Christmas music
Well, we’re well over a month into the shit being played everywhere. For me, my #1 most hated has got to be “Christmas Wrapping” by The Waitresses. It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. Get Scroogey with me and list what you hate.
Really the only stuff I do like is the older stuff like Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Vince Guardaldi Trio (which I’m listening to now).

I hate novelty christmas songs. Grandma got run over by a reindeer, I want a hippopotamus for christmas. That sort of thing.
Oddly enough, I like jingle bells by the barking dogs.

I went to college in a time when you couldn't just download any song you wanted to at any time. I combed through all the used record stores in the city till I found a copy of The Waitresses' "I Could Rule the World if I Only Had the Parts" EP which contained Christmas Wrapping. When I was playing it in the dorm, I became the most popular guy on the floor as everyone wanted to tape it.

“Christmas Wrapping” is also my favorite Christmas song!
Just listening to the insane bass line makes it worthwhile...

Paul McCartney’s song is truly the worst.
Christmas Wrapping is a great song and a really iconic piece of New Wave music, but it is too long and overstays its welcome.

Count me in as another fan of "Christmas Wrapping."
And, I know I'm going to get a lot of blowback for this, but "Wonderful Christmastime" is also a favorite.
Least favorite: "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey. It was okay the first several thousand times that I heard it, but I'm over it now. WAAAAAAAY over it.
Also, I absolutely love "This Christmas" as covered by Yutaka, but I can't stand anyone else doing it--even Donny Hathaway, who wrote it.
And then there's this, which is in a league entirely of its own:

Wow love “Christmas Wrapping” and "Wonderful Christmastime". And i even told myself before that if i ever make a Christmas song i want it to have that new Wave synth sound those songs have
And I unashamedly admit "All I Want for Christmas is You" by Mariah Carey is my all time favorite Christmas song

To be clear, Wonderful Christmastime does not have a new wave sound. That’s not what I intended to say. That song sounds like someone got a synthesizer for Christmas, practiced for ten minutes, and then recorded without any thought to how generic the sound was.
The Waitresses were new wave in the sense that they were reacting to punk. They were not new wave in the New Order sense. And notice that the wrapping/rapping pun is legit. They are indeed rapping in a pop song in 1981.

Proto-rapping became a mild Pop trend around 1980/1981 after the Sugarhill Gang's smash hit made it cool. A lot of Rock/New Wave groups attempted it.

While I have no issue with "Wonderful Christmastime," I do understand why the synths grate on people. I have a similar feeling about Wham's "Last Christmas." But I think, in both cases, that the songs themselves are better than the original recordings. For instance, the Shins recorded a killer Beach Boys-style version of WC and there are many great versions of LC, including one from Rubber Band, a Beatles knock-off band.

I love both Christmas Wrapping and Last Christmas. I can’t hear them enough.
And even as much as I love Macca, Wonderful Christmastime should be considered a war crime.

The songs I hate are Jingle Bell Rock and Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree. They have a lot of fans on this board.
I'm not into Christmas songs. The only other Christmas song I ever bought was Please Be Home for Christmas by Charles Brown. The only Christmas music I played this year was the Vince Guardaldi Trio on YouTube.
