Forum software doesn't allow google short links?
I'm not sure if this is intentional, and if so, why.
From another thread, I was trying to post a google maps link. Google shortens them, as explained here, but those shortened links get trashed in this forum:

Just go to google maps and choose a location you want to share. Click the menu portion on the left side of the page, and select "Share or embed map" and look at the link it provides. This forum will alter that link to something like: https:///maps/vDrMVoydQTD2
My original link was supposed to be:
https://goo(dot)gl/maps/vDrMVoydQTD2 but with an actual period, instead of the (dot).

IIRC, other URL shorteners -- like tiny.cc and bit.ly -- are tossed out too. It's to prevent abuse. It's not just Google that can create goo-gl URLs. Anyone can create goo-gl URLs that redirect to wherever they want, obscuring a potentially sinister link. They're winding down this service, and goo-gl will cease to be a thing (at least outside of links created by Google themselves?) next Spring.

Ah, okay. Thanks for the explanation.
