Aretha Franklin gravely ill [UPDATE: Dead at 76]
http://www.showbiz411.com/2018/08/12...-grammy-awards
Exclusive: Aretha Franklin, Queen of Soul, Gravely Ill in Detroit, Winner of 18 Grammy Awards
This is exclusive, and heart breaking for me and for the family and friends of the great Aretha Franklin. She is gravely ill in Detroit. The family is asking for prayers and privacy.
Originally diagnosed with cancer in 2010, Aretha, who turned 76 in March, bravely battled back and refused to be knocked out by illness. Her last performance as on November 2, 2017 for the Elton John AIDS Foundation in New York. Her final public performance was at Philadelphia’s Mann Center in August 2017. It was a miraculous show as Aretha was already then fighting exhaustion and dehydration.
Aretha is surrounded by family and people close to her. She will be so missed as a mother, sister, friend, cousin. But her legacy is larger than life. It’s not just that Rolling Stone called her the number 1 singer of all time, or that she is the Queen of Soul. Long live the Queen.
More to come…

Yeah, that's what I was going to say. Didn't she have pancreatic cancer years and years ago. Usually that's a death sentence in a few months.
Anyway, she was the best and I so love her most famous recordings. I remember watching The Blues Brothers on VCR as a kid and when she broke out with "Think", my jaw almost hit the floor.

You are right about that. My Wife's Grandmother passed away last month from it. Once she got the news, it spread through her body in no time.

I highly recommend her Greatest Hits SACD by MFSL if you want her classics in their best sound quality.

One of my all time favorite movies. Elvis died on the same day in 77

This is the sort of performance that surpasses the original version to become the definitive version. Aretha Franklin has been one of my favorites since I first saw The Blues Brothers when I was a little kid, with the most memorable performance in the whole film. Thanks for posting that, jpcamb.
Thank you for sharing your God-given gift of song with the world. Rest in peace, you beautiful woman.

I was sad when I got up, opened the tv and saw the news. I think I had something in my eye at some point because I reached for a tissue. I've always loved jazz, soul and R&B and all the fantastic ladies (Ella, Lady Day, Aretha, Etta James,...) who touched my heart.
RIP "Queen of Soul".

RIP to a legend.
I still remember back in the late 90's when Aretha was able to re-invent herself and released a hip-hop album, which was actually really good.
That Kennedy Center performance was really magical. I loved Carole King's reactions.

Hey, if we're going into cheesy 80s duets, let's not forget my favorite with two incredible voices :

The worst tribute ever.
All she did was talk about herself.
What a B!
