Wow, thank you for the very affirming thread!

Thanks to Vin and the rest of the admin/mod team for the vote of confidence and the invitation to serve. From what I can tell so far, wow, they really do their best and it's a job that can be hard and thankless. I have a much deeper appreciation for what mods and admins do now and will try my best to follow suit. Hug a mod, people, they're working hard for you!

The only thing I think would be helpful to add about me and how I read the site is that it matters less to me "what" you write and more it's about "how" you write it. We disagree? Okay. Great, even. You're pushing buttons on purpose and trolling? Yeah, that's not going to work for me. Never has. We're better than that. If one can make your point without coming off as a jerk, people will be more inclined to listen. That's my hope for all of us: we value "how" we write to one another as much if not more than "what" we write in the first place. When we value "how," it's no longer about being right ("what"). It's about mutual respect in the marketplace of ideas.

Friends, I've been here 18 years (19-20, if we count preregistered lurking) and this place means something to me. I'll do my best to do my part to keep it healthy, keep it kind, and keep it fresh. Thank you for your patience with me as I learn how to step into this new role and try it on for size. Here's to 18 more years (and beyond!) here!
