Your misheard lyrics

OK, we all get lyrics wrong. Hopefully no one hears you singing them that way. What are some of the best (worst?) you've ever gotten wrong?

A few for me:

Even though I knew it was wrong, I could swear Sting was singing "I'm a pool hall ace" in Every Breath You Take (real lyrics: "How my poor heart aches")

I thought Golden Earring's Radar Love was actually "Red Hot Love" (which really makes more sense....what the hell is "radar love" anyway??")

The Tubes' "Talk to ya later" always sounded like "Talk to your lady" to me.

And from my family, my brother always thought Freddie Mercury was singing "You got mud on your face, big disc brakes"

Re: Your misheard lyrics

Bush has a song called Greedy Fly - I used to think that there was a passage in there that said "Make up your mind, I need some head" - it turned out to be "Make up your mind I need some help."

Re: Your misheard lyrics

Iron Maiden, "Two Minutes to Midnight."

I heard it is "Blood is free, don't stain"

Actual lyric: "Blood is freedom's stain"

Re: Your misheard lyrics

Probably posted this before in the last "misheard lyrics," but I always thought Elton was singing,

"Rocket Man, burning down the shoes off everyone"...

when he was actually saying,

"...burning up your fuse up here alone."

Beck - Loser

I knew it wasn't correct but as a kid I always heard it as "So, open the door." Obviously, it's actually "Soy un perdedor" which I probably would have picked up on had I taken Spanish in HS.

Re: Your misheard lyrics

The song: Blondie's "Heart of Glass"

Actual lyric: "It's just no good, you teasing like you do."

What I heard: "It's just no good, you're cheesing like a river."

It has become a longstanding joke in my family that if someone has a big smile on their face in a picture, someone will say, "Look at you, cheesing like a river."

Sex Pistols "Anarchy In The UK".

"Another c*** like tendencies ...."

IIRC, the lyric is suppose to be "another council tenancy"

Has there been another thread like this one? I searched, didn't find it.

Oddly enough, the impetus for me starting the thread was political in nature; In Trump's SOTU speech, there was the bit where he called that guy "DJ" when he really goes by "CJ", and rather than admit his mistake he instead created a scenario that never existed, a conversation in which the guy says he goes by both. It reminded me of the way a child argues. And then I think back to childhood, probably around 11 or 12, when my pal was singing She's So Cold by the Stones. "I'm so magical I'm so magical" he was singing. I laughed and pointed out that the lyrics are "I'm so hot for her". Instead of admitting his mistake, we waited for the song to come on the radio (yeah, that's how you had to do it back then), and in one part of the song the lyrics are a bit unintelligible (not uncommon when Mick Jagger is singing) and my friend said "THERE! He said 'magical' there!"

Re: Your misheard lyrics

A new mondegreen list is always appropriate!

The Bee-Gees, 'How Deep is Your Love'
"You come to me, on a summer breeze" which I always heard as "You come to me on a submarine"

lol

Re: Your misheard lyrics

I overheard my wife singing along to Rihanna's "Only Girl in the World" and she says, totally straight faced, "Want you to love me, like I'm a hot guy", I stopped her and said that I'm pretty sure those aren't the lyrics. And she asks me to prove it (as if there's nothing unusual about what she just said).

So I had to look it up then and there. She says "hot RIDE",

DISORDER by Joy Division

What I thought :
I've been waiting for a guy to come and take me by the hand
Cause these sensations make me feel the pleasures of another man

Reality :
I've been waiting for a guide to come and take me by the hand
Could these sensations make me feel the pleasures of a normal man

My kid:

"Whoooah We're halfway there
Whoooah Livin' on a Prairie!"

And yeah, I couldn't find a previous thread even though I'm sure there was one. I searched for both "mondegreen" and "tony danza."

I didn't try searching for "bathroom on the right" or "wrapped up like a douche". Wonder if that would have worked...

Re: Your misheard lyrics

“I guess it rains down in Africa”

For years I thought that was the laziest lyrics.

Bruce Springsteen- "Tenth Avenue Freeze Out"

I heard this song at work (Muzak) before I knew anything about Springsteen. I always thought he sang, "Tell the devil you can freeze time". I was fairly surprised when I looked up the lyrics

Hey, I got that one wrong too! I think I thought it was "Tell the devil you can freeze out". Clearly we both heard that "tell the devil" part.

Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers

For years I thought Kate Bush was singing: "She's so popular."

When it's actually "Jeux sans frontiere."
