I've been hosting shows at my house in Columbus, OH for the last few years. It's kind of a hobby I've fallen into. I was curious about others experiences hosting or attending house shows? We've had a couple awkward experiences with fans that attend shows. We've also made some great friends.

I've actually never attended one that I wasn't hosting.

I went to a house show in Cincinnati a couple of years ago to see Marian Call. I can see how it might be difficult to pull those off, but the one I went to was great. Very intimate and friendly. About 30ish people.
