Ace Frehley - Origins Vol. 1 (Covers Album)

Ace is back and he told you so!

Well, the results are a bit mixed, as you'd expect, but overall this is a pretty darned good album of cover songs, with some nice guest appearances.

Paul Stanley takes lead vocals on Free's Fire and Water, while Slash appears on Thin Lizzy's Emerald. Mike McCready takes a solo on KISS' Cold Gin, and there are also appearances by Lita Ford, and John 5 (twice).

Here are some of the cuts...

Bring It On Home

Fire and Water

Rock and Roll Hell

White Room

Magic Carpet Ride

Emerald

I've been listening to this the last couple of days.

Like most of Ace's tunes in the past, I really like the underlying music, but don't care for when he does vocals.

I love it, but absolutely HATE the drum sound of it. Sounds like it was recorded on a different planet, let alone different studio (which it was). Too much echo. Everything else sounds good though. But the drum sound is so distracting.

Ace & Paul recently had some health issues. Ace had to cancel a recent concert due to exhaustion.
Paul had surgery to repair a torn bicep tendon. Getting old sucks!

Like most new releases these days, an absolute piss-poor job of mastering this thing... a loud, noisy, brickwalled mess.

Too bad, because the performances and arrangements are pretty great. Ace's vocals are... Ace's vocals.

If all the KISS stories out there are to be believed, it seems you have to wonder how much he actually played on the album.

And the tour is over. Ace had to cancel it due to health issues. At least Paul is back it and doesn't seem to be wearing a ling. Dude recovers fast as fuck from these surgeries.

Last week's Eddie Trunk podcast with Ace as his guest. Together, they go track by track discussing the new covers album.

Haha, wearing a sling. He had surgery on his arm.
