Myrkur - M

Been listening to this album a lot recently. There's just something that's fascinating me at the moment about the way it veers between different styles of music, from all-out black metal to more ambient tunes. For example - first track is black metal, second certainly isn't ...

Re: Myrkur - M

I found this to be a really intriguing & beautyful record... It's funny because growing up listening to heavy music, I feel like a lot of people would have considered it completely absurd to compare metal artists with avant garde classical composers, or even to use the phrase "artist" might have seemed ridiculous to some. But nowadays there are records like this one which bridge the gap so seamlessly...it's interesting too because in some ways heavy music is so atmospheric and even cinematic... I think it has tended to get lost on a lot of people who aren't looking to suspend their disbelief, or breach the confines of genre. With Myrkur it's like you know she could make this record sound any way she wants, in terms of talent she could surely make a critically acclaimed folk pop record, but instead she chooses to express herself in precisely this way.
