Maroon 5 didn’t perform at Super Bowl 50, but will at Super Bowl 53

It looks like Maroon 5 is out and Coldplay is in

Coldplay will headline the Super Bowl 50 halftime show, according to multiple sources.

The news was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Sports Illustrated, Us Magazine and Variety, citing unnamed sources, have also said Coldplay will get the slot.

The NFL is scheduled to make an announcement during tonight's game between the Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions. Neither the league nor the band has confirmed the news.

The NFL said Thursday that the Super Bowl 50 halftime show is still being planned and there will be multiple acts.

I would rather have a coconut shoved up my ass while being skinned alive and then set on fire while being made to eat my own balls than listen to Maroon 5. Easy skip for the Halftime Show it seems.

Maybe they can borrow the dancing sharks from last year?

Please no.

Also, I was wondering the other day : Why does Adam swear so much on Maroon 5 songs? I mean they're not an angst-y band and it sure doesn't seem like Adam curses all the time in real life. Why does a song like Payphone have like seven F-bombs in it? Seriously, Dave Grohl uses F-words in just about every sentence he forms and yet there's not nearly that much cursing in Foo Fighters songs.
Does Maroon 5 think cursing gives them street cred or something? Don't they know they're a bubble-gum pop band?

Maybe has some inner angst built up after marrying a Victoria's Secret super model?

Not shocked since I doubt AC/DC, Iron Maiden, or Slayer is going to play well with Middle America and parents watching the game.

Was Tom Petty the last rock band that did the halftime show?

I watched JENNIFER'S BODY (2009) for the first time yesterday and one of the Satanic band members in it references Maroon 5. Not sure if I'd heard of the band before then, probably only in passing.

Here's what I found on the web:
In the film, Levine and the award-winning pop-rock band Maroon 5 are referenced once by Nikolai as he tries to make his point on why his band should sacrifice a virgin for the promise of fame and fortune.

During which he quotes, "Hey, do you want to be working at The Moose Cafe' all your life, i don't think so...Do you wanna be a loser, or do you want to be rich and awesome like that guy from Maroon 5?" .

Does the OP understand the difference between "favorites to play" and "confirmed to play"? Apparently not.

Anyway, I will admit I liked Songs About Jane, but everything after that was a big ball of suck.

There was a decent 6 year run of dad-rock that ended with The Who in 2010.

McCartney
The Stones
Prince (the setlist was as rock as you can get)
Tom Petty
Springsteen
The Who

Prior to that run, it was all pop and r&b acts. And they went right back to that format after 2010.

Once upon a time - more than 10 years ago they actually had promise. Well, if they had actually let their drummer at the time be the lead singer.

They should get Foo. They would do a kick ass halftime show.

Now I get why a dance pop band has guitarists that look like they play heavy metal

Levine was on Stern today. He said their next album will be going back to their roots. No extra writers. No hit singles in mind. Just make as much of a rock album as they can. That it's been something he's been wanting to do for a while.

I caught part of that interview as well. He said he wrote all the old ,ate rial, but a lot of the recent albums have been written or cowritten by others.

RHCP "played" just last year.

Anyway, I applaud this decision, not because I'm a Maroon 5 fan but because the drama in this thread is hilarious.

If you want Metal you get Metallica the night before in a concert in SF but only on the radio.

Personally I want to see the long awaited reunion of the Blue Jean Committee.

Wasn't there a rumor that a reunited Guns 'n Roses would play at half time?
