New Order announces Music Complete, the band’s first new album in 10 years
New Order promised new music when they signed to Mute Records back in September, and now they’ve delivered. The legendary new wave outfit have announced the release of their 10th LP, Music Complete, due out September 25th.
The band’s first album in a decade, Music Complete follows 2005’s Waiting For The Sirens’ Call. It also marks the return of band member Gillian Gilbert, who hasn’t recorded with New Order since 2001’s Get Ready. (Gilbert left shortly after that record’s release, but returned 10 years later in 2011 after her children had grown.)
Music Complete was produced nearly entirely by New Order themselves (Gilbert, Bernard Sumner, Stephen Morris, Tom Chapman and Phil Cunningham). The exceptions being Tom Rowlands’ work on tracks “Singularity” and “Unlearn This Hatred”, plus additional production by Stuart Price on “Superheated”.
CD, black vinyl, limited-edition clear vinyl, and digital versions of the album will all be available, as well as a deluxe vinyl box set featuring eight 12-inches. The box will contain the clear vinyl version of the album alongside six pieces of colored vinyl (red, blue, yellow, gray, white, and a one-sided black etched 12-inch) featuring extended versions of all 11 album tracks. 200 of these sets will be signed by the entire band and distributed randomly through the New Order store. All pre-orders are going on via NewOrder.com.

I recently got both Get Ready and Waiting For The Sirens’ Call and was surprised how good they were. I really liked Republic, but then they seemed to only want to release best of records for a few years there and I lost track of them. I'll be checking out this new one for sure.

Get Ready had some great tunes:

Yeah, I don't know about New Order without Hook. I'm sure they can put some good songs together, but Hook's bass lines are pretty crucial to the sound of the band---and I would hope the new bass player doesn't try to just imitate Hook.

The lack of Peter Hook really sucks. Album artwork is awful. Song titles are the typical inane junk I expect from this band. My expectations are very low for this, but there may be a few decent songs.

I've been listening to Power, Corruption, and Lies a lot lately. Something tells me I won't be listening to this one at all.

Nothing screams rock and roll like waiting 14 years for your kids to grow before recording a new album. This is going to suck.

Anyone heard this?

I love the original album and I hadn't realized that they re-released it with a lot of extra shit.

I kinda like the music in the teaser video, but then I'm one who likes the electronic, dancey New Order, not the newer, "rockier" New Order. Still, one wonders if their time has passed. And the lack of Hook worries me as well. I'll be cautiously optimistic until I can hear the album in full.

New Order have announced a few guests for Music Complete, the follow-up to 2013's Lost Sirens and their first album without Peter Hook. La Roux's Elly Jackson, the Killers' Brandon Flowers, and Iggy Pop all appear on the record. Jackson sings on "Tutti Frutti", "People on the High Line", and "Plastic"; Flowers sings on album closer "Superheated"; Pop is on "Stray Dog".

Your loss. Hook is amazing, no question. But he really is a c*nt. He left the band on his own and is bad mouthing them anywhere and everywhere he can. I saw New Order live two years ago and the new bass player was a seamless replacement. If you told me that was Hook (and that's how far away my seat was), I would have believed you. While I thought "Restless" felt like an album track and not strong enough to be a single, it has since grown on me. Can't wait to hear the album in it's entirety. And I'm very excited to see them again live. Here is another track off the new album.

Album out now, and it's fantastic. It's their best release since "Technique". And might even be better. I need to listen to it a few more times. It's definitely one of their best. I'm so very happy with this release and look forward to the tour.

I think I read the massive boxset won't ship until Novemeber for me. Probably go pick up the black vinyl or Cd for the car. Or both.

That's good to hear, I hadn't heard anything I like by them since the "Regret" single more than twenty years ago.

I like their more guitar-based stuff, so this one doesn't appeal much to me. The Iggy Pop song is awful.

Yeah, I hated Get Ready and Waiting For The Sirens’ Call, but I like this OK. I don't *love* it, but it's not going directly into the Recycling Bin like Get Ready.

Nope. Even after going in with lowered expectation, this album was underwhelming. Couple of okay songs, but mostly dull and lifeless. This was a better album than Get Ready, but I liked Siren's Call better, making this New Order's 2nd worst album ever.

New Order's newest album, Music Complete is excellent! I think it's their best one of the 21st century, and really brings to mind their '80's songs. I feel like I'm discovering their music for the first time when listening to this.'
In fact, I'll go further & even say that this album is their best since the '80's - I think it easily eclipses any of their '90's & 200X's albums...
Favorite songs on this album include: Restless, Singularity, Plastic, Tutti Frutti, Academic, and others. Fantastic....

I saw her face
In a dream last night
And it hurt so much
Yes, it hurt so much
She was in my mind
As I drank my wine
And now I count the costs
Of the one I lost
She went away
To a different place
And she was never to return
Whatever happened to that girl?

And it hurt so much
Yes, it hurt so much
She was in my mind
As I drank my wine
And now I count the costs
