Disney's Mulan (2020, D: Niki Caro) -- live action

This was my guess for the next adaption.

On the heels of the magical success of Disney's live-action Cinderella, the studio is eyeing another live-action retelling: Mulan.

Disney bought a script by writing team Elizabeth Martin and Lauren Hynek that centers on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan, the female warrior who was the main character in Disney's 1998 animated film.

Chris Bender and J.C. Spink (We're the Millers) are producing the new project.

Re: Disney devloping a live action Mulan

Hong Kong and China have already done a ton of live-action Mulans. This one with Vicki Zhao Wei was pretty good:

But the Huangmei Opera version from 1964 with Ivy Ling Po was best:

Who's gonna be cast in the Disney version? Brenda Song? Vanessa Hudgens? Ariana Grande?

Didn't we have a thread on the one Ash is talking about? It looked good. I need to read that story. It's always interested cuz of the gender issues and the actions done from what I can tell in the general story.

Yup. Disney is way late to the party.

Heck, the last one tried to sell itself as the first live action adaptation as well.

Soooo after Mulan and Dumbo they got what? Pocahontas, Little Mermaid, Pinocchio?

Lion King possibly?

Disney is really really not trying.

Thinking about it seriously, I'd like to see a live action adaptation of The Black Cauldron.

I actually wouldn't mind a remake of Pete's Dragon. Of course CGI Elliot that actually looks like he could be there instead of an obvious cartoon dragon.

Jamie Chung is hot but I dunno if I could buy her in a serious adaptation of Mulan. And, no, OuaT doesn't count.

Sounds good to me, Cinederella wasn't bad. I'm curious how authentic they'll be with the cast.

I'm hoping it'll be as authentic to the Chinese as the casting of Memoirs of a Geisha was to the Japanese.

I've watched the recent Chinese version and it was actually pretty good.

^ This. The cartoon wasn't awful, but it was a pitiful adaption of some wonderful source material.

I wouldn't mind a live-action Aladdin, but after the relative failure of Prince of Persia they may not want to go there again.

I'm looking forward to a live action Aladdin, the lead preferably cast by either Chris Pratt, Michael B. Jordan, or Karl Urban.
