I enjoyed Winwood's stuff when it was on the radio in the 90's but when it comes on now on the classic stations I can't change the station quick enough.

I preferred Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" in '86.

yes, actually "Arc Of A Diver" and "While You See A Chance" are miles above Higher Love

I just looked up Billboard's top 100 of 1986 out of curiosity.

From that I'd go with these over Higher Love:

Plenty of better songs - even in that year. It's not even Winwoods best song... When You See a Chance and Valerie are better songs IMO.

To tell you the truth, the last time I heard from Winwood was his next album "Roll With It" in 1988. Had no idea he was still making music with 4 albums since then - his latest in 2008.

I can think of very few WORSE songs. Ugh. Even GTR's "When The Heart Rules The Mind" was a better 86 single.

Not really a fan of Stacey Q, but I really, really enjoyed her video for the song "Screaming in my Pillow" where she's up to some fully nude lezbotronic hijinks with another woman. Her big untamed and untrimmed 80s bush is a glory to behold.

I think most of us have a single song that we think is the absolute pinnacle of rock/pop.
I like the OP's song and yours quite a bit, but neither is anywhere close to my favourite.

I am a big fan of Steve Winwood and I think 'Higher Love' is a great song. My 2 favorite Winwood songs are 'Back in the High Life' and 'Holding On.'

Yeah... I'm generally pretty generous with my 80s nostalgia and love for the music of that decade, but this is one of those that songs that has perpetually annoyed me.

The few 80s songs off the top of my head that I dislike even more:
Mike & the Mechanics "The Living Years"
Whitney Houston "The Greatest Love of All"

The worst 80s song of all time still remains Dire Straits's "Walk Of Life".
