Anyone think John Cusack looks like Brian Wilson?

Seems like an odd choice, especially considering it appears absolutely nothing was done to have him resemble the later-years-Brian. And - no disrespect to John - but it's not like he's the greatest actor ever and/or a marquee draw.

Why does John Cusack always get cast at real life people he looks nothing like? He was the least convincing Nixon I've seen in The Butler, and there have been a lot of bad Nixon attempts over the years. He also had no resemblance to Edgar Allen Poe in The Raven aside from the hair/goatee, but at least that wasn't supposed to be based on reality.

Apparently the Cusack part is about 20 years ago, which should make it even easier to find someone who looks like him.
Heck the guy from Modern Family would even be better than Cusack.

The movie is not about Brian Wilson today, it's about Brian Wilson in the '70s and '80s when he was super reclusive.

Yeah, we know that. Mathis film played the festivals last year and Paul Dano was getting the same sort of early awards buzz that Eddie Redmayne and Bennedict Cumberbatch did.

I saw Love & Mercy at TIFF - it is great. Cusack and Dano look nothing alike but it somehow works anyhow - they cut back and forth between the two time periods throughout the film, both giving incredibly solid and nuanced performances. The recording of Pet Sounds section of the film is a definite highlight.

the 7.1 mix of the film was jaw dropping.
personally I have to say I thought Cusack was terribly miscast in this movie - Dano on the other hand was flat out excellent.
