Which movie studio has ruined the most franchises?
It seems like with in the past few years more and more remakes are getting made and they are usually not only bad, but tend to ruin the entire franchise in the process.
At first my feeling was that it was just fox doing it, but then realized every studio had attempted to reboot or force a sequel and had whored out the original film.
I know it shouldn't effect my enjoyment of the original, but it does. Anyways which studio do you think has done the most damage? I'm just focusing on the big ones and giving some examples of their biggest offenses in the pole.
Some of my personal frustrations:
Fox

Disney

Warner Brothers

Sony

Universal

Paramount

I have to vote for Fox for doing everything they can to destroy R rated franchises. Die Hard and Robocop(I know its MGM, but I think they are a part of Fox), and yes too many X men sequels as well.

The disney sequels are generally decent enough, Fox has driven a lot into the ground, so has Universal.
MGM has a deal with Sony and Fox International for distribution but they make their own flicks now.

Fox had nothing to do with Star Wars, that was all on George Lucas.

Too many X-Men sequels? That's only a problem if they suck, which they mostly have not. Out of seven X-men movies in the franchise (counting the two Wolverine movies in the franchise) only two out of the seven have actually been bad movies. X-Men 3 and Wolverine Origins are the only bad movies in the franchise.

Seems like the OP doesn't know how something worked out for a franchise at a studio.
Fox did ruin the X franchise to a degree. Thankfully we're on the rise of quality w/ it. Fox had nothing to do w/ SW. That was all Lucas.
WB ruined Terminator w/ T3. T4 did nothing to fuck it up. Jackson fucked up The Hobbit. Though one could also blame WB for not restraining him. They also didn't fuck up Godzilla. While the film has its issues... it also took the character back to his more serious origins. It made $525 million on a budget of $160 million and also had to rise over the crap that may still reside from what Sony did to the character. I don't know much about the Airbender film, seems like people blame the director more than the studio.
Paramount didn't ruin Indiana Jones. That's a hit for Lucas and Spielberg. Remember that they (Paramount) don't have much if any on how that film was going down. Now w/ Transformers that's an interesting thing... did they let what could have been a cool franchise be crap? Yes. BUT they did get Bay to do it knowing what he does and... it is a success. A crappy quality film franchise from the start that makes money. Same goes for TMNT... they didn't ruin it. They started it like that and it worked for them. So there wasn't an up to go down from really on those two franchises.

OP question is kind of kooky, but certainly Disney is to blame for fucking up the most potential franchises. John Carter and Lone Ranger of course (although it's debatable if anyone really was dying to see any form of the Lone Ranger story). But Haunted Mansion for example could have been as big or bigger than Pirates of the Caribbean but they chose to make a silly Eddie Murphy film. And their wizard of oz and alice movies are unwatchable.

I had to put Sony for a franchise you listed under WB, Godzilla. It took 16 years after their debacle to bring him back last year.
That being said, I'm a DC guy and WB's overall track record with that universe has been unforgiveable. We'll see if they've turned the corner in 2016.

All the studios have hits and misses with their film franchises. I don't really see any one studio as being worse than the others.

Tie between Fox and WB.
IMO Fox has the most potential for sequels with franchises like Die Hard and Predator, but it gets wasted by management that is afraid to take chances. More of the same. Their mishandling of everything regarding the Alien franchise, minus the first two films, is criminal however. It's been almost 30 years since we have a good Alien film!!!
WB has to be considered simply for how they have treated the DC properties theatrically. The amount of money they were leaving on the table for Marvel is ridiculous.

10 years ago I would have said Disney with all the direct to DVD sequels not to mention turds like Brother Bear and Home on the Range and mediocre crap like Meet the Robinsons, Dinosaur, Chicken Little & Treasure Planet. However these days they're cranking out the hits while Pixar has sequel-itis.
Exactly. I'd argue that X3 is the only true turd. Origins: Wolverine still had some kick ass action sequences and an amazing Liev Schreiber.

I have to go with Fox.
Aliens, Aliens vs Predator, Star Wars (though, technically, that hangs on George Lucas), Predator, Fantastic Four, X-Men (though the last movie seems to be well-received, that franchise is still about 50-50), Prometheus (again, that's on Ridley Scott).
I'd maybe put Warners at second -- DC Comics Cinematic Universe (only one movie out so far, but it looks like they're wandering around their thumb up their ass), Godzilla. LOTR/Hobbit (Peter Jackson's baby, not Warners) was disappointing, but not a disaster.

Paramount is definitely a contender for the TNG movies and the JJTrek in burying a near 50 year franchise alone.
But, Disney and Fox are tied for me.

Re: Which movie studio has ruined the most franchises?
The X-Men franchise has had far more success than most movie franchises ever achieve. How many other long franchises have this many good movies? They can probably be counted on one hand.
Exactly this. Abrams saved Trek because Trek was stone cold dead before he even got his hands on it. Now Trek is alive again due to the Abrams movies.

That is going to be the hardest part of watching new Star Wars movies, it wont quite be the same with the opening title music.

I voted Fox for Alien, Predator and Die Hard. Star Wars in it's current form is dreadful but that is all on Lucasfilm.

Ruin the X-Men franchise? It's probably the single-best superhero franchise in history if you don't mind-meld all of Marvel's output together.
Warner ruined Nightmare on Elm Street and Blade, lesser franchises but still franchises.
Disney doesn't really believe in animated franchises, they believe the Disney name itself will sell any concept.
