Will Star Wars: Episode VII break all records?

or will it just do really well, but not break any new ground in film-making or BO like the Original Trilogy did?

i really don't know, but leaning towards slightly > $400mil. (domestic)

No, but Disney is going to make a shitload of money. Great moves in buying Marvel and Lucasfilm. They own 2015.

I figured the Dark Knight threads would hold that record for decades.

I don't think so, unless it's really, really good and manages to exceed all expectations. It could happen, but I doubt it. Somewhere above $300 million seems certain though.

Between 475-525 million. It should make close to 300 million after 2 weeks

That's not a bad guess. 500M domestic.

Well The Phantom Menace wasn't good and did not exceed or even meet expectations. How much did it make?

The poll choices don't match the poll question.

I say no, it will not.

Yeah, it'll make more money than any of us can imagine, they'll be riding high. I don't know if it'll be come the new #1, but it'll be in the top 10 or maybe even the top 5.

Depends on the quality. If it delivers, it will do $600m with ease, if it doesn't, it will do $400m. Globally it'll crack $1b regardless.

Phantom Menace made $430 mil on it's initial run, and another $43 mil on the 3D re-release. I totally forgot it got a re-release too.

Re: Will Star Wars: Episode VII break all records?

ROTS made 480m adjusted (TPM is 700+ but I'm not sure that's the best comparison) you add in 3D, Imax, international growth...and that this should be a much better film... it should go much higher. I'd say 600ish would be a safe bet, possibly 700m if the movie turns out great. Disney's got a year to turn the brand around back to where it was mid-90's leading up to the prequels. On the other hand, we've had a generation of growth since than, and the cartoons have kept the brand going for the younglings...

I think it might hit that as well, even if you account for a 60-65% drop second weekend, if you include the weekdays this thing should clear 300-330 first 2 weeks.

Re: Will Star Wars: Episode VII break all records?

I think the best way to gauge how much it will make is to compare it to the last Star Wars movie released in theaters. Going by those number I can comfortably predict that this will make roughly $35 million total.
