I know it's in the TV section, but I also enjoyed movies he was in.

Murphy's Romance
Maverick
Sunset
Support Your Local Gunfighter
Support Your Local Sheriff

Re: James Garner dies at 86

He was the epitome of the kind of affable, attractive presence millions of people would enthusiastically welcome into their home once a week. Not a surprise he was as big a TV star as he was up to 1980.

But given his chiseled good looks and high likability factor, I was always surprised he wasn't a MUCH bigger film star. He did some really good and several great films, but never had the theatrical career I would have expected. Didn't seem to get offered much beyond variations of Maverick

Always liked the films 36 Hours and The Skin Game. The first Support...film is a lot of fun too, though, again, it's pretty much a thinly disguised Maverick episode.

Only movie I have with him in it is Fire in the Sky, but I remember Maverick.

RIP, Jim.

Damn. He was awesome and I didn't see much of his work. It was hard not like him.

Seemed like a really nice guy too.

RIP

80's Video store memories!!!

^Used to always see that one sitting on the racks. From what I remembered, the movie wasn't that bad actually.

And let's not forget him w/ Bruce

I loved Garner (Rockford Files still holds up today as far as I'm concerned), but is it really that depressing when an 86 year old guy dies of natural causes?

It's just we are losing a whole generation of actors really quickly. People who have been part of our lives for the longest while, are disappearing relatively quickly. Yes, it's the way it's supposed to be, but it still sucks.

Worth mentioning that Garner's personal favorite of his movies is also one of his best:

The Americanization of Emily (1964).

He did several more movies/TV movies (Hallmark) with Julie Andrews; they sure had chemistry.
