The trailer for "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn" (May 23, 2014) gives away the ending!

Starring Robin Williams.

Major spoiler at 1:36 in the trailer.

This spoiler can only serve to drive people away from watching the movie. I'm not sure why they put the spoiler in the trailer, but it was a really, really, really bad idea.

Grundle... You're like the worst threadmaker guy.

What's the movie about if I can't access the trailer? Your thoughts on the premise?

Spoiler in a trailer? Yeah. That's shitty. What's worse is the trailer. Generic music and image composition for plot. It's a generic trailer.

The director is Phil Alden Robinson. The guy directed Sum of all Fears and Field of Dreams. Among some other stuff.

Turns out this film is a remake of a 1997 Israeli film.

Based on the trailer, it isn't all that interesting. I'll wait for reviews.

I'm not seeing anything that jumps out as a major spoiler. I mean, I see the scene that you're probably referring to, but common sense indicates that there would be a scene like that in the movie.

Is this a situation that something is not a spoiler until someone point it out as so?

the spoiler is that he's not going to die in 90 minutes? is that the offending spoiler?

you'd have to be pretty thick if you didn't infer that from the fact that she was aimlessly looking around the room, saw "90" on a magazine and blurted it out to get him out of the room.

Trailers giving away salient plot points and endings? Color me shocked. grundle with another landmark epic failure thread?

BTW Robin Williams really needs to go away. Far far away.

It gives away the ending? Not really.

It just looks very unfunny.

When has Richard Kind been small?

Honestly, is it a surprise that

Spoiler:
The doctor would catch up to him and reveal the truth?

Yeah. He's always been a big guy for what? The 20 years I've seen him around? He's bigger now.

Richard Kind has always been big, but his girth here looks weird, out of proportion to his face, as if he were wearing a fat suit.

Anyway, my taste must be going in my old age, as this doesn't look too bad to me. I might voluntarily watch it.

The movie is about a guy who is told by his doctor that he has 90 minutes left to live.

Spoiler:

The spoiler is that the doctor who told him that he only had 90 minutes left to live was lying.

"We know from studying the marketing of movies, people really want to know exactly every thing that they are going to see before they go see the movie. It’s just one of those things. To me, being a movie lover and film student and a film scholar and a director, I don’t. What I relate it to is McDonald’s. The reason McDonald’s is a tremendous success is that you don’t have any surprises. You know exactly what it is going to taste like. Everybody knows the menu."

If that was revealed at the end of the movie, even halfway through, I would agree with you, but the audience knows the doctor is lying as soon as she says it.

I didn't. I guess I missed it.

If everyone had known the ending to "The Usual Suspects" before they saw it, no one would have become obsessed with it the way that they did.

Thank goodness this pro-spoiler attitude didn't exist when "The Empire Strikes Back" was released.

So it wasn't obvious that when she said he would die in 90 minutes that he wasn't "really" going to die in 90 minutes? I'd say that was pretty much a given.....

Dude, they show her looking at a magazine that says "90 minutes to the perfect turkey" on the cover right before she says it!

Kermode constantly says that in his radio show too, and I just don't have patience with it. "Well, it's been X number of years!" Yeah, maybe, but And Then There Were None has endured for 75 years on the basis of its surprise ending, don't just assume that because it's old, everyone has read it, IMO.

There is no "pro-spoiler" attitude here. This film is a by-the-numbers Dramedy. Establish the premise, and the script writes itself. It's not a tightly-wound thriller with intricate plotting and elaborate plot twists.

Apropos of nothing, but when I was 10 I saw "Ten Little Indians" on our local channel's "six hours of movies" block that ran every weeknight at midnight. The level of growing creepiness and despair of that classic story not only destroyed my fragile sensibilities, it led me directly to the works of Agatha Christie (who never met a plot she didn't love to rehash ad nauseum).

The way they butchered the ending for Hollywood -- TWICE! -- is worse than genocide.

Christie herself actually revised the ending for the theatrical production adaptations, and that's the ending which has been used for all film versions except for the Russian film. That being said, that must have been a cool experience to watch at night, spooky as hell.

Spoiler:
The original novel, with themes of euthanasia, infanticide, & suicide would never have flow in Hollywood back then. Hell, I I don't think even today.

Yeah, after typing that I remembered that Christie made a "happy ending" for the play. It still stinks though, especially in comparison with the original.

And yeah, this was, what? Summer of 1980 or 1981. I had a tiny black and white set in my bedroom, and since there was no school I stayed up every night as long as I could to watch Night Owl Movies with Big Wilson. Local guy, played piano, drinking scotch, was live all night from the studio downtime playing old horror, monster, B-movie, dramas, mysteries, whatever. He'd come in during commercial breaks to comment on the movie, play some more piano, drink some more scotch, and lead into (and out of) commercials.

I really miss programming like that. It really cemented my love of movies. Watching "Ten Little Indians" that summer, I was absolutely riveted to the screen. And then terrified as hell for more than a little while afterward!
