Do you have movie or TV quotes that keep cropping up in your speech? I do, for better or worse.

I come up with a lot of clever stuff that's 100% all my own quite a bit, but I'm also the kind of person whose everyday dialogue is pretty peppered with movie and TV quotes. I often don't even realize it until after the fact, or while watching a film and hearing the lines and thinking, "Wow, I just said that the other day." I'm not necessarily proud of any of this; it's simply part of who I am. But I like me, so maybe I am proud. Anyway, I'm wondering how far spread this idiosyncratic behavior has spread across DVDTalk.

I'll post more if I think of more but for now, here's few well-worn quotation "gems" in my vocabulary:

- "Goodbye! Goodbye! I can't come back! I don't know how it works!" - I'll often say this line from The Wizard of Oz while I'm walking away from a gathering of friends.

- "I'd have to quit BASEketball, too?!" from BASEketball. My wife and I say this to each other when we're trying to explain something and the other person clearly doesn't get it. I love that this makes us both laugh. She saw that I'm starting this thread and she reminded me that another alternative line I got us using in this sort of situation is "Oh, she bit her dog, eh?" in an Uncle Henry voice from The Wizard of Oz.

- "D'oh!" from The Simpsons is in my vocab, too, not as much as a while ago, though. Perhaps the strangest Simpsons quote that I use sometimes is that, when my wife is a little grumpy about something (not outright angry, 'cause this wouldn't work to diffuse the situation!), I do an impression of Bart doing an impression of Marge as if I'm doing an impression of my wife: "Take a sweater! I don't think that's such a good idea! Hrmm!"

- When one of us is going to feed the newborn or the toddler, my wife or I will often ask the other where the "blackroot" is, to which the other goes on a diatribe about how "You never, ever give a baby blackroot!" to which the other replies, "Well, my mother raised me on blackroot!" That's all from Willow.

- When my wife wants to do a silly laugh that's out of place on purpose, she does a really loud, "Ha-HA!" like Elliot does when E.T. makes the bike fly in E.T. Trust me, if you know that moment in the movie, you know how distinct that particular laugh is!

- There's a giant projection screen set up at work that gets used a lot and I can't help but call it "The Big Board," like George C. Scott's character calls the display board in the War Room in Dr. Strangelove. Only one person has ever understood the reference though people ask, from time to time. I kind of wish I didn't have this particular habit, but it's tough to break.

- Star Wars quotes crop up quite a bit though I can't think of any that occur really often. Maybe, "Great, kid, don't get cocky!" when a friend is going on about something awesome and can handle some ribbing or while hushing a crowd, "Cut the chatter, Red Two."

- This may sound crazy, but I have tons of quotes from The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Movie in my vocabulary. I had no idea how many until about a year after we were dating, I convinced my then-girlfriend, now-wife to watch the movie with me. Every thirty seconds, she says, "You say that all the time! Wait, you say that all the time!" Again, I have no idea how pervasive it was but she's right. I had to assure her that while I may say those lines a lot, I do have original material, too! In terms of quotes, I can think of plenty off the top of my head: "Okay, Doctor Goofy!" "Put me on intermittent, Joe." "I'll go poke Webb's eyes out." "Inserting the breakfast pastry." "No, sir, that's paper." "Industry! Science and technology!" "Hey, Kreskin, quit hoggin' the bottle." I could go on. That's a movie where pretty much every line is a punchline and really memorable; it's a highly-quotable movie.

There are simply some words or phrases I hear from other people that trigger quotes from me and usually I'll toss it out but there are plenty of times I hold back because the timing / mood isn't appropriate. Honestly, I'm having trouble thinking of any of these triggers off the top of my head but it's kind of like how Robin and Ted always have to do the salute to "General..." or "Major..." in How I Met Your Mother. I can really relate to that sort of thing. I guess one trigger for me, not necessarily from a movie, is that whenever I hear someone say, "I woke up this morning," I can't help but do that blues guitar riff, "Da-DAH-NA-Da-DOW!" I won't name names but there's this woman who lives in my house and who gave birth to my children who really, really hates that.

Those are obviously quotes from films but I use them in my own shit when talking to people. It's funny sometimes.

Nice. Reminds me that sometimes when I say that I'm trying to do something, I'll sometimes add, "I'm tryin' real haaard... (whisper) to be the shepherd."

Didn't the "high maintenance individual" idiom originate in When Harry Met Sally?

"Shooooish!" - Encino Man. Use it on my kids often, with the occasional "Put the lotion on the skin!" when giving them baths.

I sometimes interchange the four lines from Airplane!

"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit smoking."
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit drinking."
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit amphetamines."
"Looks like I picked the wrong week to quit sniffing glue."

I actually do this quite often, even on here.

Chop up the conversation when the President calls Dmitri in Strangelove. I use pretty much all of it.

Whenever I call to my wife I say "light of my life" like Jack Nicholson does in the Shining. (The scene where he is walking up the stairs with a baseball bat, with her backing up ahead of him, terrified). It always makes her laugh.

I use this one all the time. My wife hates it (and the film on the whole).

"Pull the other one!" and "What's he do, nibble your bum?" from Monty Python and the Holy Grail are also used with some regularity.

When I drink with my friends, "if you're gonna spew, spew into this"

I always find myself saying "that's my lot in life, its not a lot, but it's my life" (A Bugs Life)

I'll also tweak the "These are not the droids you're looking for." line from Star Wars and replace the word "droids" with whatever I'm refering to in the conversation. I'll also add Obi Wan's hand wave as I do it.

I used used to use the "...and don't call me Shirley." line from Airplane! But that one has pretty much run its course.

I'm sure one we've all used at one time or another is "Bueller? Bueller?" when a question we've asked has been met with silence.

When I hear people quote Swingers (1996), I immediately walk away and never speak to them again.
