Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil 2 in development
I had the extreme pleasure of hosting a Tucker & Dale Vs. Evil panel with Alan Tudyk and Tyler Labine this past Friday at HorrorHound Weekend in Cincinnati, Ohio (full disclosure, yours truly is a staff writer at HorrorHound Magazine). I can safely say it was the most fun I’ve ever had hosting a panel in my life. Tudyk and Labine were so open and genial with the crowd, really letting the fans in on the process of making the film, its release and subsequent sequel.
Yep, that’s right. They announced there is a sequel in development! The following clip shows as the surprise announcement unfolded. Essentially, while Tudyk was at SXSW he told an inquiring interviewer that there wouldn’t be a sequel based on what he had heard. Once that interview broke one of the producers contacted him to correct what he had been under the impression of. I will say I was unaware that this announcement was going to be happening during the panel so I was as taken aback as anyone. As you can see in the clip he really did just blurt it out, taking the audience by surprise and elating them.
No details are known just yet, but I personally am waiting intently to hear what Tucker & Dale might get up to this time around!

I just watched D&T the other day and I was VERY pleasantly surprised by it! I did a double feature with this and John Dies in the End. D&T was certainly not what I was expecting. It is an extremely clever take (parody?) on the tired old horror cliche. Very funny!
I can't say I would run out and watch D&T2 the weekend it is released (to be fair, I see very little in theaters anyway), but I would definitely blind buy it when it hits video.

This is one of the funnier movies to come out in years. It would have been a massive cult hit if they had released it twenty years ago. I think it's much tougher these days for an independent movie to became well known.

I love the first and am definitely cool with a sequel coming out.

I loved the first but hated that the trailer gave everything away.

I'm not sure about a sequel. The first one had a pretty original premise. Hopefully they can come up with something equally funny but totally new.

I'd make it supernatural this time. Tucker and Dale are the ones who don't understand the good nature of the ghosts.

I love the first and will be down for a sequel, but I'm curious how they'll do it. The key premise was pretty much all there was to the first movie. Granted, it was excellently executed and didn't get old, but I'm not sure about a whole other movie of it. At the same time, I'm not sure how much is there once you get rid of the central conceit. Hopefully they have a good idea for it and aren't just rehashing things.

Yeah I also think it needs to be Tucker and Dale vs the Army of Darkness.

Did you fall asleep? I watched it on Netflix and it had the reporter at the beginning and the end.

One of my favorite films of yours is Tucker and Dale vs. Evil, so I have to ask: is the sequel that’s been discussed on-and-off for years is still a possibility?
Oh, thank you. Yes. We’re working on something right now. I wouldn’t call it a film sequel, but the story is not done being told. I can’t really tell you much, but we’re in development with a couple things right now. Things are looking pretty good. Alan [Tudyk] and I are both still on board, along with Eli [Craig, director/co-writer]. We’re just trying to line up a few pieces. It’s just a matter of timing. We’re going to get something to the fans, because that’s really the only reason we want to do it. No one’s getting rich off this thing. [laughs] Alan and I have always been like, “Whatever we do has to be for the people that stuck with it and made it what it is.” That’s all the fans. Hopefully something will come to fruition.
As one of those fans, that’s very exciting. What do you think it is about the film that has made it stick with people?
I think it was totally fresh. We hadn’t seen a ton of horror comedy - “horromedy,” as I call it - like that that had been executed that well. I think Eli and Morgan [Jurgenson], the writers of the movie, did something that everyone, after they watched it, was like, “Why haven’t I thought of that?” or “Why haven’t I seen that before? That was so obvious and ripe for the picking!” But they did it first. I think it really stands out and has lasted the test of time because it was a very original piece. That makes something timeless.
