ABC developing Alternative History series set in America (Lost Revolutionary War)
Seems like a interesting concept. Hopefully ABC doesn't mess it up

What if Americans had no Independence Day to celebrate? A drama project in development at ABC answers that question by building an alternative reality where the 13 colonies lost the 1775-83 Revolutionary War. Titled The Thirteen, the contemporary drama takes place in a world in which the colonies lost their bid for independence, and America is still fighting the British for freedom. The provocative project hails from Lionsgate TV and former Lionsgate Films head of production-turned-producer Allison Shearmur, who has a deal at the studio. It is being written by feature scribes Jim Agnew & Sean Keller, who penned the upcoming Nicolas Cage starrer Tokarev. This marks Shearmur’s second TV sale though Lionsgate this week — she also is producing an American Psycho sequel series which is in development at FX. Another drama series, NBC’s Revolution, also explores a world where the U.S. does not exist, broken up by a massive power shutdown. Agnew and Keller are with Paradigm and Industry Entertainment.

I'd see this if it was set in the 1800s and the colonies were still fighting for independence. But if this is contemporary, and we are still colonies of the British Empire, that just stretches the limits of plausibility.

Television shies away from shows set in pre-Civil War America because it would mean a virtually all-white cast. Expect a very alternative take on historical reality from this series.

We're supposed to believe that the colonists lost the Revolutionary War and continued to lose to the British Empire for the next 230 years.

Will the British still line up in a straight line like a shooting gallery when they attack? Oh, well they play the drums too?

I've pretty much given up on new network dramas. Most of them either suck, or get cancelled after one season, often both. Give me a solid two seasons and I'll start watching.
I think this could be an interesting show if it takes place at some point in the past, but the idea we're still fighting the British 250 years later is kind of silly.

Alternative American History sounds like something that would air on Fox News.

"The Thirteen", so no new colonies to the west? The colonies couldn't break free during either World War?

Sounds like a DC Elseworld story or a Marvel What if . It could work if they do it right.

What ever happened to that Ridley Scott-produced TV miniseries of Philip K. Dick's The Man in the High Castle that was supposed to be happening? That can't get made, but this can?

The area to the west, namely the territory acquired from the Louisiana Purchase, might still belong to France.
