Untitled Bourne Legacy Sequel - S: Jeremy Renner - [ON HOLD]
http://insidemovies.ew.com/2013/08/0...legacy-sequel/
The legacy of Jason Bourne will continue… but likely without Jason Bourne.
Universal has hired screenwriter Anthony Peckham (Sherlock Holmes) to pen the next chapter in the Bourne franchise, which will remain focused on Jeremy Renner’s drug-enhanced super-soldier, Aaron Cross. (Deadline initially reported the news.) Renner took the reins from Matt Damon after the original Bourne trilogy concluded with 2007′s Bourne Ultimatum. Last year’s Bourne Legacy, which pitted Cross against Edward Norton’s shady government handler, was a modest hit, grossing $276 million worldwide. Though that didn’t equal Damon’s output in Ultimatum ($443 million), it was more than the original 2002 franchise-starter.
Producer Frank Marshall has frequently mentioned his wish to unite Damon and Renner in a Bourne film, but it remains unclear how the politics would work. (Damon has repeatedly insisted he won’t do another Bourne without director Paul Greengrass, and he doesn’t have the best relationship with Legacy director Tony Gilroy.) There’s some hope, since Peckham wrote the script for Invictus, which earned Damon an Oscar nomination, and the new Bourne installment — The Bourne Infinity? The Bourne Ubiquity? — didn’t immediately announce a director… Stay tuned.
I was not a fan of The Bourne Legacy even though Renner did a decent job as Cross. Gilroy wrote a very dull action movie IMO. We'll see how this develops and who they hire as director.

I agree, Legacy was pretty poor but it wasn't Renner's fault. I'd still be vaguely interested in this with a better script, and I'd still love to see Cross and Bourne cross paths.

Although it was weak, I still enjoyed Legacy so I'm looking forward to a sequel (but I do agree, the script needs to be better).

Honestly I hope Bourne and Cross never show up in the same movie. I thought BL basically ruined the concept behind the character. He went from a bad ass super spy that we assumed was from his training and skills, to saying "Oh. Bourne is only a bad ass because we gave him drugs and made him a super solider like Captain America."

I enjoy Renner but Legacy had unebelievably slow pacing for an "action movie" and was a total bore.
I was hoping we'd get another Jason Bourne movie instead of this. Oh well.

I liked Legacy just fine and I'm totally up for another outing with Renner.

Maybe in the sequel Jeremy Renner's character can spend the majority of the movie searching for his insulin shot.

Yikes. Legacy was atrocious. You'd think that with the lame ending they had, the second half of that film would already be complete.
No, thank you.

I haven't even seen Legacy yet due to all the bad word of mouth. I guess I should rent it in the hopes that I'm as pleasantly surprised as I was with Taken 2.

I just can't get into Jeremy Renner as a leading man really. He just seems to be missing that spark that makes me really want to get into the films he's in. To me he's a guy that works better when he's co-starring with someone bigger name.

Then legacy comes along and they just go "Oh they really are the way they are because we give them drugs that make them super smart and super fast." That whole plot point seriously cheapened the Jason Bourne character and really just was totally unnecessary. It would be similar to if say in Batman Begins, we watch Bruce go through all the training that helps him become Batman, and then in TDR we have Ras or Alfred or someone go "Martha Wayne was given shots through her pregnancy supplied by the league of shadows that made Bruce, super smart, and super strong." It cheapens a human bad ass and turns it into some lame sci fi crap.

Re: Universal planning Bourne Legacy Sequel Starring Jeremy Renner
Jeremy Renner is the current Sam Worthington; a nobody that Hollywood insists on forcing down our throats until they finally find out that he just doesn't work.
He must've sucked someone off to get all these leading man roles.

I didn't mind Legacy, though it did have its flaws. I'm kind of baffled though regarding Renner's rise to leading man status. He worked in The Hurt Locker, but was more of an unknown then. I really don't see him carrying a movie where he isn't riding on the character's coat tails (Bourne, Hawkeye, etc.). Plus, sometimes he reminds me of a pug.

And I don't think I want to see them in the same movie either. Damon even said he had a tough time playing Bourne in the last movie with the fights and the stunts. Now that he's 42, it's going to be that much tougher. Renner is also 42, although he doesn't look like it.

I finally caught Bourne Legacy on HBO. It was worth seeing on HBO only, I'm glad I didn't pay for it. I look forward to seeing Legacy 2 on HBO.

Re: Universal planning Bourne Legacy Sequel Starring Jeremy Renner
As for Renner, after Hurt Locker and The Town it is clear he can be a great protagonist. He's no Matt Damon, though.
I didn't see a problem with him, just the script. When you add to that losing Greengrass*, it's easy to see why Legacy didn't connect as much.
The other problem too is that The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum were the best back-to-back sequels in film in about twenty years.

I'd put The Dark Knight/The Dark Knight Rises (controversial around these parts, I know) and The Two Towers/Return of the King above the Bourne sequels (which were quite good).

Eh. I agree with the general sentiment. Renner was good as Cross, but the movie itself really dragged and was a bore at times...not as bad as I was expecting though given the reviews.
I'll probably check it out when it hits DVD/Blu.
