The Lifeguard (2013) (D: Garcia; S: Bell, Gummer, Starr, Madigan)

Focus World partnered with Screen Media Films in March to acquire U.S. rights to Sundance debut The Lifeguard. Kristen Bell plays a young woman whose career and love life crises send her home to live with her parents. There, she regresses back into high school life, hanging with her old pals and reclaiming her job at a condo complex pool. Liz W. Garcia wrote and directed the pic that also stars Mamie Gummer, Martin Starr and Amy Madigan. The movie releases on digital platforms on July 30 and in theaters on August 30.

Looks like a Sofia Coppola/Zach Braff co-production.

Watched this last night. I love Kristen Bell. This was a good role for her to show some range. The acting in the movie, overall, was very good. The movie itself wasn't really all that great. Some of it just seemed so drab. There was a real over use of lame no name indie music as well. It definetly did feel like it was trying to be more important than it was. "Garden State-y"... but, not as good.

Agreed, I thought Kristen Bell was terrific in this role but is just that the story is not worth telling. Besides the story would have taken a whole other tune if the gender role was reversed. Instead of ha ha, that was funny good for the kid, it would have been how dare you for raping a 17 year old girl.

Also... it was awesome to see Bell in some mildly graphic sex scenes.

Well...if that's all you're interested in, there is a compilation on Dailymotion.com of just those scenes. I don't know if I'm allowed to post that here.

Caught it last night on Netflix. Not bad, but not great. Soundtrack was kind of annoying.

2.5/5
