Buy.com now Rakuten.com 2 day Summer spend $200+ to get 30% back

http://www.rakuten.com/ct/rakutensup...mmersale_email

code= Summer

lower amounts spent= lesser % back

You have to spend $200 to get 30% with a maximum amount back of $250
I just bought $500+shipping worth of DVD's and earned $150 back to spend on future orders.
They have alot of stuff from importcds (deepdiscount) on sale.

Frasier Complete Series $126.36+$5.98sh=(YOU PAY $132.34)-30% $37.90=$94.44

Fugitive Most Wanted Edition $108.48+$5.10sh=(YOU PAY $113.58) -30%$32.54=$81.04

Some good deals on TV show on DVD preorder's too. Some good deals on Star Trek Seasons.

Thanks for the heads up on this.

Initially I was excited, until I saw the $250 maximum clause. Had my eye on a DSLR zoom lens which goes for ~$1800. If I could get 30% back on that total---- hell yes.

Interestingly, with the $1800 lens in my shopping cart, it shows a projected point total of 54,000. I'm assuming they would adjust that down to the capped amount (25,000) somewhere during the checkout process...

I think it will show at 54,000 in checkout but when the points are awarded it will be the $250 max.
That's still a good deal on the lens. Most of their photo equipment is sold by Adorama and other respectable dealers at or close to the best prices available. I bought a couple of new lenses for that $250 rebate. You can't get that anywhere else. I figure it's like getting a new lens for the used price. And it's even better on the next sale because you have $250 in credit and the chance to earn another $250.

I placed 2 orders with them in 1999. They billed my credit card when I placed the order, then they sent me an email saying they were out of stock and would send them out as soon as they got new stock in.

Flash forward to 2013 and they still haven't gotten any new stock in or given me a refund. Please remember this when you are placing $250 orders with them. Because there's probably a good chance they'll keep your money and never ship anything out to you or full honor their obligations.

That's pretty bad. So why didn't they refund you?

I've never had a problem that hasn't been resolved fairly. They sent/charged me for a $41 DVD preorder just recently that I had canceled several weeks before and they refunded my credit card and told me to keep the DVD.

So just because one person has a bad experience doesn't mean everyone will.

They kept changing the date of when it would be shipped. Then when I finally gave up and called them to cancel and refund my money, they said that since 45 days had passed since I placed the order, they couldn't do anything even though they acknowledged they didn't send me anything and kept my money.

I find that hard to believe but even if it's true that's hardly their fault. Anyone who lets this go on that has long has to take responsibility. A simple call to the credit card company back in 1999 would have solved the problem.
Besides, they have a completely different business model now. They have a Marketplace model with almost all products sold by third parties. And it's not individuals like Amazon marketplace; it's legitimate business selling through the Rakuten website.

I've placed numerous orders with them in the last year without a single incident.

If you never contacted your CC company then thats on you. I wouldn't have waited 6 months without following up on it, let alone 14 years.

I would be careful of ordering anything from them right now. According to this thread over at SlickDeals, there have been at least 200+ ppl complaining of credit/debit card fraud through Rakuten.

I've bought from them and never had a problem. They did cancel a James Bond steelbook once, but I've gotten everything else in a timely manner.

I was just about to post that information. It's fine if you use Paypal on Rakuten or a virtual charge number, but stay away from using your credit card on the site.

Too many thefts of credit card info have been reported from using the site in recent months. They have a leak in their security design somewhere.

That thread is very scary. It sounds like the hackers have a backdoor into their systems and are pulling unencrypted(!) customer information at will. And Rakuten are completely incompetent or oblivious or willfully ignorant to it.
