Alejandro Jodorowsky's "La Danza de la Realidad" (The Dance of Reality)

Wow, one of my favorite directors of all time has a new movie coming out soon. His first flick in 23 years. The trailer is in Spanish, with French subtitles. They'll release an English language one soon.

Yeah, anything with Jodorowsky's name on it, is automatically more interesting than 80% of the shit being foisted upon filmgoers.

Wow. I'm in. I want to see what Jodowrowski can do in a newer age.

El Topo is his masterpiece, in my eyes. So many things happen. It's slow paced, and yet you can't stop watching. And you feel like you're really along for the journey.

Jodorowsky is one of my favorites as well. I'm in for anything he does.

Re: Alejandro Jodorowsky's "La Danza de la Realidad" (The Dance of Reality)

I don't want to derail the thread, because it's for Danza, but looks like they premiered "Jodorowsky's Dune" documentary at Cannes and it sounds better than I could ever have hoped. Director Nicolas Winding Refn got an invitation to Jodorowsky's apartment, wherehe showed him every storyboard from the Dune film that was never made. Page by page, with narration. Mind.Blown.

According to “Drive” director Nicolas Winding Refn (who’s also here this year with the ultra-violent “Only God Forgives”), the legendary unmade mid-‘70s film version of Frank Herbert’s “Dune” by Chilean-born mad genius Alejandro Jodorowsky actually exists – and he’s seen it. OK, even Refn hasn’t seen a version of it that can be projected on a screen or played on a high-def monitor, the version that was supposed to star David Carradine, Orson Welles, Mick Jagger and Salvador Dalì. That doesn’t exist. But Refn says he spent a long evening in Jodorowsky’s Paris apartment while the latter went through the storyboards for “Dune” with him page by page, talking through every shot and every line of dialogue. “I am the only spectator who has ever seen this movie,” Refn concludes. “And I have to tell you: It was awesome.”

Dear god, that sounds so incredibly bitchin'.

Refn is one extremely fortunate soul. Sounds like he knows it too.

This hit a nearby art-house a month of two back in my neck of the woods, but I foolishly didn't catch it, so I'll have to wait for the disc. Though to be honest, everyone here seems like a huge fan, I must admit it's a sorry of which I know little.

Re: Alejandro Jodorowsky's "La Danza de la Realidad" (The Dance of Reality)

Saw this last night at the theater and absolutely loved it. Its a shame it took Jodorowsky 23 years to make it. I didn't know this until I looked it up last night, but the lead actor in the film is Jodorowsky's son Brontis, and in the film he plays Jodorowskys father. He hasn't appeared in too many films, but he was spectacular in this. I don't know why he doesn't have a better career. Hopefully that changes.

Re: Alejandro Jodorowsky's "La Danza de la Realidad" (The Dance of Reality)

Just watched this tonight and it was fucking fantastic! What a trip of a film. Top-10 of the year material for sure!

EDIT - I never did see it in theaters, which in retrospect, sucks. At least I supported the film when I bought the tickets.

I did and then something else came up and was never able to go, so I said fuck it.

Seeing it in all it's Blu-ray glory makes me regret not being able to see it on the big screen.

Also for Jodorowski fans - there's an insert inside the Blu-ray case that says Fando Y Lis will be released on BD in the Fall of 2014, so that's pretty cool and Fall's almost here.

There's an interview with Alejandro, his son/star of the film, Brontis, and his wife, who was the costume designer/art director for the film, Pascale Montandon-Jodorowski.

I'd say the special features run about 20 minutes total. They're awesome. The film is also Not Rated.
