The Butler is an upcoming historical drama film directed by Lee Daniels, starring Forest Whitaker. The film is based on the life of Eugene Allen, a real-life butler who served seven sitting Presidents of the United States in the White House until his retirement in 1986. It currently has a release date of October 18, 2013 in theaters.

Also, while the cast is fine, I'm not sure if some of them are going to be believable. John Cusack as Nixon? Robin Williams as Eisenhower?

Was wondering if Cusack was playing who I thought he was. Turns out I was right. Great cast but sounds pretty cliche.

WB decides to be a huge dick, blocks Weinstein from using "The Butler" as title.

They have to remove all marketing for the film using that title by midnight tonight. Totally fucked, but absolutely hilarious.

Over a short with the same title made in 1916. Absurd.

This just looks painfully bad. True story or not, I felt like I was going into a diabetic coma watching that trailer.

Well, since it says Lee Daniels' The Butler on it I'm assuming he has full cut of the film, which is surprising since it's a TWC flick.

To be honest, I'd never heard of Lee Daniels before the TV spots for this started airing. I love Forest and the rest of the cast is great but I find it hard to get excited about this. Someone mentioned that it looked like a theatrical release of a Hallmark movie and that's the same vibe the ads give me.

Wish Forest Whitaker did another movie in the vein of Ghost Dog. I'm not even kidding about that. I really loved that flick.

That was a requirement. Warner Brothers wouldn't let TWC have the title "The Butler" since they have a 1916 short film with that title. So the MPAA allowed them to this name change, provided that Lee Daniels' name is at least 75% the size of the words "The Butler."

I've always been a fan of Forest Whitaker and yes, another film like Ghost Dog would be cool, but that story and that style of filmmaking is very rare IMO.

Glad they changed the name. I was sure this was a re-release of the 1916 silent short, and was terribly confused.
