This is the same guy who was shot to death at a gun range a few months back I assume.

The smarm factor will be over the top with SS at the helm.

I can't wait for the part where the sniper has a strained, but heartfelt moment with his "not exactly the most attentive" dad.

Saw Cooper and assumed it would feature Chris Cooper. That would have been awesome.

Cool, hopefully the tone will be something along the lines of Munich.

Obligatory the entire film will consist of Cooper taking out enemies with a walkie talkie.

Yeah. His death was perhaps more interesting (at least more unusual) than his life. He was killed by one of the post-traumatic stress-suffering veterans he took to the shooting ranges for "therapy".

Great Time Magazine article about his death here

There's no way the schmaltz-meister leaves that part of the story out of the film, is there?
Then again, he did omit the scene of the death of his last bio-pic character, so who knows?

Well the death doesn't occur in the book...right?

Are we sure Steven is directing this...the blurb makes it sound like he's just producing with a director TBA.

EDIT: An LA Times piece seems to confirm that Spielberg will direct. Also, ROBOAPOCALYPSE seems to be DOA.

It say's "Steven Spielberg's next film". That generally means he's directing it.

Let's see if Spielberg doesn't open the movie with the death and then flashback to the events of his life.

Very few autobiographies include the author's death.

I think that wouldn't be right for this movie. Kyle's death had nothing to do with his career as a sniper (despite the whole gun thing)...

Right. There's no reason to think that his death will be included in this movie. It would be a tacked on ending that is really unneeded for the story it's telling.

Of course that's EXACTLY what Spielberg did with his last movie so who knows.

re: American Sniper (D: Eastwood) S: Bradley Cooper

I disagree. His death had everything to do with his career as a sniper and his experiences there. As I said, it's probably the most interesting thing about his story. Even though it's not part of his book, it would be a huge mistake not to include the accident/murder in the film. It's too important a detail to leave to an-end credit tag.

Actually, without the death, I don't think the film gets green-lit. It's just Zero Dark Thirty with a less sympathetic protagonist. But with that ending, now it's a Spielberg film.

I completely disagree. He should have stayed sniping and left the brain shrinking to the half wits.

Not to speak ill of the dead but the guy he took...didn't seem like someone you'd give a gun to anymore. I should probably read more on that whole event.

I'm 100 pages into the book, it's really good. That being said, I'm wondering if Spielberg will have the balls to show Chris Kyle as the politically incorrect guy that he was. Saying things like "killing people in Iraq was the most fun time of my life" or if he's going to portray him as a reluctant hero "oh, war is so awful I hate doing this but have to because it's my country" type BS.

I wouldn't count it. Not with Steven Schmaltzberg behind the camera.

Because he loves the word "schmaltz."
