Do you read reviews for a movie before you see the movie itself?
When you are excited to see a new movie, do you ever read any reviews for it before you actually see the movie itself? In the past I used to read reviews for movies that I was really excited for, but stopped doing that several years ago when more and more reviews started to include spoilers.

No.

No. I do read them after though. I might look at the star rating or whatever system there is in place, but I don't read beforehand.

I read some reviews, usually just skimming over them to get a general gist of it. Only for movies that i'm borderline on watching.

Often, and when I do I typically read the first paragraph and then the last one or two. They're usually devoid of spoilers and give you a good idea what the person thought of the flick. I always stay away from the comments section.

No. I do sometimes gauge whether or not I wanna see a film based on the Fresh/Rotten count on Rotten Tomatoes though. I'm mostly only effected by an overwelmingly rotten count. In which case I usually won't bother with the film.
However, if it's a horror movie with all Rotten feedback. All bets are off.

I used to always read Roger Ebert's reviews in the Friday Sun Times. He usually didn't give away spoilers and was always a well formed opinion. I can't find that in other critics. Now i just watch the Trailers and decide if it looks good to me.

I'll occasionally avoid reviews, especially for movies I'm really excited about, but usually I skim reviews just to see if they get me more or less interested in a specific film.

No, I don't care about people's opinions on most things and not at all about films.

If it is a movie I know I'll see already (summer blockbusters) then I rarely read them. Generally, on the rare times I read reviews, it'll be for a movie I'm on the fence about.

All the time. As a matter of fact I've read a handful of Iron Man 3 reviews today.

Unless it is a movie that I am being compelled to see my an SO or a friend, I always gauge critical response first and likely skim some reviews from the five or six critics I follow most closely. I don't really carefully read reviews until after I see something though to avoid spoilers.
Life is too short to spend time watching crappy movies and I discovered long ago that it is a rare thing for me to genuinely like a movie that didn't at least garner decent critical response. OTOH, there are many films that the critics adored that I didn't care for, so the "does it look interesting to me" factor is still in play as well.

yeah. I read reviews. All that shit doesn't hamper my wanting to see a film. I end up forgetting all that shit when the film starts.

Re: Do you read reviews for a movie before you see the movie itself?
Generally, yes. I enjoy film criticism nearly as much as films themselves. I don't believe in spoilers ruining films and frankly if a film is designed so that knowing a single fact ruins the entire movie, then it likely is a pretty weak film (I'm looking at you Sixth Sense).
The only times I consciously avoided reading reviews in advance was if I was going to be writing a review myself for the film. In those situations I liked to get my writing done first, so that even if some of my opinions turned out similar to others, I at least knew where those thoughts came from. It's also why I discuss Mad Men with my co-workers before reading any episode recaps/reviews.
Other times, I just simply know I am going to see a film the day it comes out, so I'll just coincidentally see it before I have time to read critiques of it.
As for films I may or may not see, I value reviews b/c they help me filter what I'll watch. I'll even look up reviews for things I may be on the fence on watching via Netflix streaming sometimes. As others have said here, life is too short and there are too many films out there to simply watch everything or to waste time on a ton of bad movies at the cost of not seeing good ones.

Surprise endings excepted, I don't care about spoilers. Knowing what happens in a movie doesn't spoil it. I want to know what happens in a movie before I see it. That's how I determine if I want to see it or not. Sometimes I seek out the spoilers beforehand. If the spoiler makes the film sound more interesting than it previously did, I'll see it.

Yeah. Spoilers don't do shit to me. If I want to see the movie no amount of spoilers will ever stop me from enjoying it if it's good.
